I refuse to accept an economic system in which school teachers pay a higher tax rate than billionaire investors.

Math Skills x Stage of Life

(Okay, I do a bit more than spreadsheets, but I still chuckled). Not sure who made this, but it's brilliant 😆

Ah, Elon Musk. He tried to be the Henry Ford of space travel but instead became the Liz Truss of social media.

I sat by an election denier on the airplane and he started poking me in the arm to be emphatic about his views on people stealing ballots secretly and the airplane was full and I couldn’t move anywhere so I started explaining the yellow fever in very great detail, all the way down to telling him about the bloody vomit that looks like coffee grounds and it worked. He stopped talking to me. The moral of this story is you can’t out-weird an academic; our toolset is too vast. #vastearlyamerica

Hi, my name is pancake. I'm 3 now and am living such a happy life since being rescued by my kind humans.

I was only a few months old and so fat I couldn't stand, after being hatched without ever knowing my mum.

Despite this I am very trusting, social and loveable.

Please don't eat my friends ❤🙏

This is your daily reminder that you have millions of friends and allies in the EU.

Also, the price is far too steep, but I'm fairly certain #FIFA and Qatar is about to turn #Qatar2022 into the greatest own goal in the history of soccer. Everyone is now keenly aware of the intolerance, oppression, and totalitarianism in Qatar, and everyone knows that FIFA needs better leadership.

Firstly, I'd just like to say thank you to all the people who have liked, boosted and commented on my images, and to all the new followers I have. It's rather humbling. 😊

Today's shot comes from a magical day in the Scottish #Highlands, a few years ago, when I was photographing red squirrels.

These charming characters are incredibly agile and can jump great distances between trees.

Here I managed to capture one as it appears to be flying down my lens.

The first black child ever allowed to attend a white school is only 68 years old now.
White parents pulled their children from school. White teachers refused to teach her.
Ruby Bridges now works as an activist & public speaker
This wasn’t a million years ago. /1

Boost this toot if you're planning on sticking around Mastodon whether or not it becomes more popular than the birdsite.

Today is #TransDayofRemembrance when we honor and remember trans lives taken by violence. How horrifying that a deadly attack upon the LGBTQ+ community in Colorado Springs should occur right before this solemn day.
Hate isn’t born in us. It is taught. It must end.
This starts with our political leaders, who must cease their cynical attacks against our community before another attack occurs.
Call out the hate. Remind them of its consequences. Hold them to account.

Musk has used "Vox, populi, Vox Dei" to justify reinstating Trump on #Twiiter. But the quote is from a letter from Alcuin to the Emporer Charlemagne urging him to resist such ideas, "Nec audiendi qui solent dicere, Vox populi, vox Dei, quum tumultuositas vulgi semper insaniae proxima sit." Which translates as "And do not listen to those who keep saying, 'The voice of the people is the voice of God', because the tumult of the crowd is always close to madness."

#OnThisDay, 20 Nov 1908, suffrage campaigner Millicent Fawcett became the first woman to speak at the Oxford Union debating society. Fawcett was the leader of the non-militant campaign for votes for women.

The Oxford Union was founded in 1823, and women were barred from being members until 1963.

Hi Mastodoning Mates. Any chance you could boost me a bit as I'm struggling to find folk I originally followed on the Twitter. Is that how this works? I'm ASD and find new systems like this and written-instructions a major headache and very confusing.

Mastodon has changed how I think. Twitter now seems like a server that doesn't want to federate with anyone else, and that everyone else has blacklisted. I'm in awe of how much sense that makes.

Climate change

I didn’t hold a lot of hope that world leaders would do what was necessary at COP27 but I still feel disappointment and grief. The one key thing that was needed was a concrete plan to phase out fossil fuel use at pace. This has not happened. In light of the lack of progress, what can we as individuals do? Moving to a plant based diet is a very good way to reduce our impact. Moving to an electric vehicle, bicycle or public transport is another good way. It’s up to us now. #Cop27

With the Twitter reinstatement of the former US President who attempted to incite a fascist coup after losing an election, now would _really_ be a good time to stop cross-posting your Twitter RTs here.

If you feel that cross-posting is the only way to maintain a presence here, please consider limiting it to original posts without mentions or RTs, to avoid cluttering timelines with Twitter URLs. Thank you kindly for your consideration.

I didn't take this photo but I was with my husband when he did. It was breathtaking up on Stenbury Down on the Isle of Wight, watching the mist roll in at sunset. The sheep were surprised to see us and for once the weather did what we'd hoped it would do! #SheepofMastodon
