If the US is really worried about variants and the spread of COVID through travel, it should require negative tests for all travelers, no matter where they come from, and require masks. Targeting single countries with bans and requirements is ineffective and racist.

The Biden White House requiring negative tests for only China is a move that puts politics over public health, and increases the likelihood of xenophobia and attacks on Asian people in the US.

Requiring negative tests for flights from a single country is ineffective because the US is already letting it rip and generating variants, and also because people travel everywhere, so variants that may become dominant in China will still reach the US via other countries.

in which we find ourselves
wherein those
still taking precautions
are derided as holdouts
even as new travel restrictions
are put in place.

Living with COVID is our long-term global reality.

The virus will continue to change with new variants possible.

We can safeguard ourselves and those around us via sensible personal hygiene & protective measures - including getting vaccinated, particularly the vulnerable.

Incredible there are ppl out there like, “I’m sick but tested & it’s not COVID so thank god I don’t have to cancel my plans!” My dudes, it fully does not matter if it’s not COVID. I promise no one likes you enough to consent to getting whatever you’re giving. Stop being gross.

It is beyond absurd to see western media critical of mitigation efforts being dropped in China.

The very same media that was critical of their own countries being slow to drop Covid mitigation of any kind.

Yes, China is a crisis - we've been living it for 2.5 years...Newsflash!

Alan Turing was a mathematician & cryptographer who was a leading code-breaker in the team that decrypted Nazi Germany’s Enigma machine during WWII. He inspired modern computing & what became artificial intelligence.

Instead of being hailed as a genius & hero, Turing was convicted as a homosexual & forced to endure chemical castration. He died by suicide at 41 in 1954.

The British government didn’t apologize until 2009 & Queen Elizabeth II finally pardoned him in 2013. #history #science

A strong, strong reminder.

There’s no room for COVID complacency in 2023.

#StarTrek #TNG just casually talking about how arbitrary #gender is, as a minor plot point during an episode that aired in 1990. It still blows my mind that some people still can't grasp this stuff...
