I would love for the New York Times to give @mmasnick the necessary column inches to explain why the NYT (and most every other publication's) coverage of the debate about Section 230 is stupid at best, wrong at worst.

I won't endorse piracy.
But on the one hand, look at the streaming media industry as a whole, probably at least at the second stage of what @pluralistic calls #enshittification -- raising prices, cutting free tiers, adding ads, walling up more content within greater numbers of providers.
On the other hand, look at internet piracy -- inexpensive, easy, relatively risk-free for the average consumer.
Compare the two, and it shouldn't be a surprise that piracy is booming.

Pence, showing himself to be the ignorant person he’s been at least since his failure to act when faced with an HIV crisis. That he calls himself a “Christian” does not mean he is a good person, it only shows he has no trouble lying.

It doesn't get more disgraceful than this. Trump is now bragging about the television and social media 'ratings' he received from visiting the site of the East Palestine disaster that he helped cause. https://youtu.be/ONrXUEUKeeE
like, I've covered telecom for two decades and I genuinely can't remember the last time I saw folks who advocated for the dismantling of the FCC or unchecked merger mania EVER face any sort of reputational consequence. doesn't exist. just memory holed.
if you're a libertarian or republican who spent the last thirty years advocating for a complete dismantling of the regulatory state and mindless consolidation, you'll never, ever be forced to own the repercussion of that very unpopular policy position because the mainstream press genuinely couldn't care less when it comes to spelling it out to readership

JFC. the GOP's PRIMARY policy position for literally FIFTY YEARS has been a frontal assault on ALL meaningful corporate oversight, environmental regulations, and consumer protections. It's documented. It's proven. It's not subtle.

I wrote (yet again) about the "protect the children" moral panic regarding the internet, and how we should focus on raising kids to be safe in the real world, rather than trying to force the internet to be perfectly safe. Reality is that not everyone is great. Pretending that everything is safe does not prepare people for real life. https://www.techdirt.com/2023/02/24/rather-than-making-the-internet-safe-for-kids-make-your-kids-safe-for-the-real-world/
To be clear, I’m a huge VR proponent, and own a Vive VR rig. I spent a lot of time in Second Life back in the day, and look forward to a really good meta-verse being developed for VR.
It's the NFT thing I take issue with. Making that part of your product tells me you are chasing fads and buzzwords, and not thoughtfully considering the world's best interests.

Consequential TIL:
I need to abandon KDE as it too has been infected with a serious brain decease.
Some bizarre and deceptive statements:
"applications ... distributed at zero cost ... precludes establishing any incentives for application developers"
