I'd love to see a list of mastodon instances that are explicitly welcoming to Black voices and POC voices, ideally ones run or moderated by POC.

White allies can spread the word about instances that are harmful to BIPOC, but personally I don't have suggestions for where people looking for a welcoming instance can go. All I can suggest is the #BlackFriday and #BlackJoy hashtags, which are great, but not the same as having an affirming local instance.

Does such a list exist? Boosts welcome.

Delighted to see the #womeninstem honoured in todays New Years honours. Shout out to @WESCentenary for women in engineering President damehood award. When you have Christmas COVID and you’re in/out of sleep, I reckon you have full permission to ditch all dietary requirements. 😈 If it makes you feel a wee bit better, just do it. There are no artificial colours after all… 😆🤒🤧

An examination of over 1 million funding proposals to the National Science Foundation from 1996 to 2019 reveals that white principal investigators are consistently funded at higher rates than most non-white PIs and relative funding rates for white PIs have been increasing. elifesciences.org/articles/830

I took this photo of hungry Pelicans many years ago at Labrador on the Gold Coast. I don't think I'll ever replicate that timing :)

‘Regardless of our industry or field, let’s resist the urge to say, “It doesn’t happen here.” Instead of steadfastly and stubbornly insisting that our workplace is already as equitable as it can be, let’s work hard to make it even better.’ Spot on Karen Catlin.

We need to listen with curiosity, care and empathy, unlearn and learn anew, and importantly enact active allyship and systemic change.

Today is . The sector needs to action inclusive systemic changes to be much more welcoming. Organisations need to embrace diversity and shift the culture. Individuals need to do this too. 🌈💜🏳️‍🌈

Seven (7) Ways to Practice Active Allyship

We don’t experience inclusion through strategies and roadmaps. We experience it through our day-to-day interactions with our colleagues — over lunch, by the coffee machine, during meetings.

💫 Deep curiosity
💫 Honest introspection
💫 Humble acknowledgement
💫 Empathetic engagement
💫 Authentic conversations
💫 Vulnerable interactions
💫 Courageous responsibilities
