@noisyastronomer "Peeing or pooping in space is now a lengthy process, involving a fan, a targeting system, & a fair amount of prayer."
I don't see how this is unique to space... Maybe I should talk to my doctor 😄
Thanks for the link, I had a good laugh!

@jennitaur I'll just sit in the corner and avidly follow both sides of that conversation 😄
@nilikm Really makes me wonder how those folks expect to be taken seriously. If those are the only voices against masking, it should be an easy decision.
The week before Thanksgiving Twitter fires 4K workers, Amazon fires 10K workers, Facebook fires 11K workers, and Disney plans thousands of layoffs—all while US Billionaire pandemic wealth increased an absurd $1.7T.😳
A reminder that billionaires don’t create jobs—they exploit workers.
Tax billionaires. Unionize workers.
@BeckePhysics @level98 @coreyspowell Not sure if this is a feature of the app I’m on, or the instance, or widely available.
When I go to add alt text to a photo, I am prompted to move a little target around on the photo to determine what will be visible in the thumbnail. The interface only pops up for alt text.
This would help with the thumbnail problem *and* encourage more people to use alt text 😊
This isn't very mobile-friendly (sorry!), but here's a little Geogebra application I made to illustrate the properties of the energy-momentum 4-vector:

Try using the slider to move the velocity all the way to zero, and then see what happens when you move it all the way to c.
Then put the velocity back to some middle value and try moving the mass slider all the way to zero.
#Jupiter will start moving the opposite direction in the sky after tomorrow. #Retrograde motion is when outer planets appear to be moving backwards in the sky (from W to E instead of E to W), but really Jupiter is always going the same way all the time, but from Earth it will appear to be ending its retrograde motion.
From #Oklahoma, it will be visible starting 17:36 (CST), 37° above the SE horizon and will move to set in the West around 1:30am. #stargazing
As a geology undergrad I learned something that changed me forever - the set of Rocky Mt.s we see today is the 2nd set of Rockies that have stood there & replaced the Ancestral Rockies. It took millions of years for them to form, millions to erode away, & millions to form again. That concept of the vastness of time - “deep time” - is a cognitive shift and a humbling one. To learn more about the Ancestral Rockies, read Dr. Jack Share’s excellent blog, “Written In Stone”
Former Toronto mayors including David Crombie, David Miller and Barbara Hall have penned a letter to Mayor John Tory asking him to reject a bill that gives him power to pass bylaws with minority support. https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2022/11/20/former-mayors-of-toronto-pen-letter-to-mayor-john-tory-urging-him-to-reject-strong-mayor-powers.html
Retired Chem/Physics/Earth Sciences teacher. I'm interested in everything.
I like a good debate that introduces me to other perspectives. I don't waste much time with people who devolve to name-calling or insults, aside to call them out on it.
I think society performs at its best when we take care of others, especially the weakest among us. That means a strong social safety net, with "free" healthcare, education, and public transit. It's a dream, I know.
30+ years of explaining stuff to teenagers has left me with some habits... I'm not a mansplainer, but I *do* like to find ways to 'splain stuff to receptive ears 😊
I like dogs, cats, and astronomy pictures with a bias towards the shorter wavelengths (kinda leaves out all those lovely Hα pics 😄).
The first thing I look at when shopping for cars is headroom/legroom. Saves a lot of time.
