In 1959, police were called to a segregated library when a Black 9-year-old boy trying to check out books refused to leave, after being told the library was not for Black people.

The boy, Ronald McNair, went on to became an astronaut. The library is also now named after him

@sundogplanets How big is your freezer? We barely have room for the bread 😄

@blurrybitsphoto@mastodon.online I always have a moment of "...what holiday?" and then I remember it's turkey time down south...

Andor season finale (mild spoilers)

This show is just so extraordinarily well-done. The procession cinematography, the music, the setup of all the key players on Ferrix, the quote from the manifesto, Maarva's speech, Andor's goodbye and the final scene ...

Can't wait to see what they do with Mon Mothma in S2 -- lots of promising build-up there!

I really want future Star Wars series to go in the direction Andor has. More world-building, more intrigue, less blatant fan service. It's such a rich galaxy with so much to explore outside of Force users.

Please, more.

The thing I want most in the whole world is for zombo.com to host a Mastodon instance. The website is uniquely poised to crack open the next decade of social networking.

In terms of usability, zombo.com warmly welcomes its users and encourages them to do *anything* there. Its Mastodon instance would be bright and colorful, with a short domain name that’s easy to spell!

The “do anything” policy is concerning from a content moderation perspective, but I have faith.

The infinite is possible.

The Great Unconformity

Left to right on top of my notebook are:
Tapeats Sandstone deposited 525 million years ago in a beach environment.
Zoraster Granite emplaced 1.7 billion years ago.
Vishnu Schist 1.8 billion years ago.

Both of the bottom layers are the roots of mountains that eroded away.

@MoreorLoess Ah, okay. That's a "ghost image" of the Sun, from internal reflections, I think.

I've used it a couple of times to take pictures of eclipses because my crappy little cell phone camera couldn't image the Sun directly 😄

I made Thanksgiving dinner and now the kids are crying and I'm not allowed to help anymore

@MoreorLoess I don't see the Moon - Would have been hard/impossible as it was a new Moon today?

@frpaul1 "Clear enough, Missh Moneypenny! This should present no shignificant problemsh!"

@clyminghawk @vickyveritas That’s a big reason why I signed up on qoto.org. Although having a character limit did make me pretty disciplined when I was on Twitter.

It occurs to me that if you *are* going to write a novella, that would be a good use of the CW tag - “Warning, short story” 😄

In 1981, Dragon Magazine published AD&D character stats for Bugs Bunny and other cartoon characters.

Bugs was a 15th level illusionist, Popeye was a 9th or 18th level fighter (depending on the spinach situation), and Daffy Duck was an agent of chaos with random attacks and complete immunity to all forms of damage.

(His famous 'first-principles thinking' approach doesn't work on #ComplexSystems.)

Welcome to Earth, where we'll all be one big happy family, as soon as Mastodon admins finish sorting all the conflicts out.
