Hashtags are great and should also be used liberally -that's how we find stuff we're interested in, across the fediverse. HOWEVER, Hashtags fuck with screenreaders, so please use them at the end of your post, in a hashtag block, not scattered throughout. (I just learned this recently).
Is it too soon to prime my new #ottawa councillor Wilson Lo with the neighborhoods annual swarm of accessibility-impacting snow clearing reports?
City crews don't like clearing the crosswalk & sidewalk that is the single pedestrian access point to our street. So we complain in bulk every year.
ACCESSIBILITY TIP: Adding emojis to your display name is terrible for people who use screen readers.
I was just reminded by someone that when you do this (as I had done), then they have to listen to the screen reader read out all the emojis/icons BEFORE getting to your actual post.
So my name came across as:

Thank you to the person who reminded me of this!
I designed the 12-bit rainbow palette for use in my data visualisations. It consists of twelve colours chosen with consideration for how we perceive hue, chroma, and luminance. The palette uses a 12-bit colour depth, so each colour requires only four characters when specified as a hexadecimal colour code in a CSS or SVG file. For more details, see https://iamkate.com/data/12-bit-rainbow/
Lots of rhetoric in new Mayor, Mark Sutcliffe's inaugural speech about how it is wrong to "have an ideology."
Folks - there is nothing wrong with being principled and having an ideology that pushes for a city that prioritizes the interests of residents over the interests of a privileged and wealthy few.
We've got a long four years ahead of us...

There’s no space in the ICU if your infant or your grandmother gets #COVID19 or influenza or RSV. More than half your child’s classmates and teachers are away sick. Your coworkers are contagious. But anonymous woman phoned me to say, “stand down.” Nope. #BringBackMasks #WeNotMe
Keep track with the dumpster fire.

Retired Chem/Physics/Earth Sciences teacher. I'm interested in everything.
I like a good debate that introduces me to other perspectives. I don't waste much time with people who devolve to name-calling or insults, aside to call them out on it.
I think society performs at its best when we take care of others, especially the weakest among us. That means a strong social safety net, with "free" healthcare, education, and public transit. It's a dream, I know.
30+ years of explaining stuff to teenagers has left me with some habits... I'm not a mansplainer, but I *do* like to find ways to 'splain stuff to receptive ears 😊
I like dogs, cats, and astronomy pictures with a bias towards the shorter wavelengths (kinda leaves out all those lovely Hα pics 😄).
The first thing I look at when shopping for cars is headroom/legroom. Saves a lot of time.
