I’m having trouble understanding the reason for these massive tech layoffs. Twitter—sure. Meta? OK, bad bet on “metaverse” and social network in decline. But what has suddenly changed for Google and Microsoft?

The fact that Jacinda Ardern is standing down, instead of doing everything she can to remain in power, is yet another example of how different she is to the mostly awful people we have as “leaders” in everything from our governments to the little organisations we work for.
