What #God, #QuantumMechanics and #Consciousness Have in Common
Theories that try to explain these big metaphysical mysteries fall short, making agnosticism the only sensible stance

The Search for Habitable, Earth-Sized Planets around SPECULOOS-2
In a new paper, NASA-supported scientists have predicted that there is an Earth-sized planet in the habitable zone of the star SPECULOOS-2.
New Webb Image Reveals Dusty Disk Like Never Seen Before
NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has imaged the inner workings of a dusty disk surrounding a nearby red dwarf star. These observations represent the first time the previously known disk has been imaged at these infrared wavelengths of light. They also provide clues to the composition of the disk.

Comet C/2022 E3 is looking beautifully odd as it swings by the Sun for the first time in 50,000 years. It will slide between the Big & Little Dippers late this month, then approach Mars on Feb 10 (bring binoculars!). I see lots of folks here spend quality time communing with forests. If that’s you, you may be a “nemophilist,” which is a lover or haunter of forests. This obscure word derives from the Greek “nemos” grove and “philos” affection. Today I want to share one of my favorite mossy forest haunts out on the Olympic Peninsula in the PNW. It’s an old growth lowland forest along the shores of Barnes Creek near Crescent Lake, WA.

Welcome to Laniakea, your galactic supercluster home
Meet Laniakea, a really big, beautiful supercluster of galaxies that also holds the Milky Way, writes reporter Amina Khan for the Los Angeles Times: https://web.archive.org/web/20140905214144/https://www.latimes.com/science/sciencenow/la-sci-sn-laniakea-galaxy-supercluster-milky-way-20140904-story.html
“This is what I’ve been doing for a long time, trying to understand where we live” said R. Brent Tully, lead author of the study published in Nature.

"WINTER LANDSCAPE IN WALES"
Belgian landscape painter Valerius de Saedeleer and his family were brought to Wales as refugees during the First World War by David, Gwendoline and Margaret Davies.
He painted this wonderfully imagined snow scene between 1914-1918.
