🧵"Twitter 2.0" is trending.
I'm a foremost expert on this and let me tell you what you should do: quit, take the 3 month severance with your friends, and build the 2.0 version yourself. Musk will give up and buy your company in a couple years.

#NASA #Artemis - And a look at the interior of the Orion Spacecraft you can see the test article "Moonakin Campos named for Arturo Campos who was one of the key players in returning the Apollo 13 Astronauts Home, The Moonikin is wearing the Orion Pressure suit also being tested. You can also see the #Callisto experiment up front. The suit can protect an astronaut for up to 6 days in the event of a loss of cabin pressure.

It's great when people who are sick test for #SARSCoV2. But when they tell you not to worry because they tested negative: I don't want that other virus either!!! If you are sick with a respiratory illness: Stay at home & get some rest (for you and for others)

OK, so we're nearing the new launch window of #ArtemisI (which opens at 10:04 p.m. Tues PT or 1:04 a.m. Wed ET)... let's take a little time to celebrate the awesomeness that is the Deep Space Network that will not only allow #NASA to track and communicate with the mission and its secondary payloads, but ALSO keep tabs on the dozens of other missions exploring the solar system right NOW: jpl.nasa.gov/news/how-nasas-de #DSN #scheduling #deepspace #communications

@nbatalha I found that electronic music, chillout style, on headphones with noise cancelling helps my mind going into the flow state, which is very helpful for being extremely productive as a programmer, focusing the mind very sharply and blocking out any distractions. Sadly I have missed some video calls because I forgot time and space around me 😅

According to the Russian news Agency, Tass #Roscosmos is contemplating their own version of the " Starlink " internet satellite system. The report indicates it should go on line in 2025. (Me: "raises a skeptical eye" We will see...) tass.com/science/1535097

One last photo highlight of the week: the fearsome 1,800 metre high Eiger Nordwand as seen from Kleine Scheidegg, the famous & appropriately named Hotel Bellevue in the foreground.

This mountain has lived in my dreams since I was young, reading of the first British ascent by Chris Bonington & Ian Clough in 1962. It’s always a thrill to see it in person.

Also thinking of Ueli Steck & his stunning 2h23m solo ascent in 2015, 18 months before his death on Everest.

Heart-shaped pendant with a lock of hair from Marie Antoinette. If this is her hair, it must have been presented before the abortive flight to Varennes in 1791, when Marie's hair allegedly went white overnight.

Is it possible for a person’s hair to go white overnight? Researchers found that hormones produced in response to stress can deplete the melanocyte stem cells that determine hair color. But there’s no scientific evidence that this can happen within hours due to trauma. #histodons

Another design consideration re: Mastodon is that it works well for ephemeral asynchronous communications, but for many reasons should not be counted on as an archival resource. Media attachments are periodically purged and may not be available after a week, or a month, etc. While some servers may try to preserve content forever, this may be costly and unsustainable. Creators, researchers should treat this as an ephemeral resource and make provisions for self-archiving anything important.

From Cassiopeia (top left) to Jupiter (bottom right) via the Andromeda galaxy (can you find it?).

Decently deep image considering that it was taken with an untracked iPhone 11 in night-mode (30 sec exposure) & from a suburban garden in one of the most densely-populated parts of Europe, the Randstad 🌃

The crisp clear skies & lack of Moon tonight obviously helped 🤷‍♂️🙂

A big thanks for the warm welcome to Mastodon! I’ll be posting more of my favourite images of the #ScottishHighlands over the next few days. This is one of my more popular photos - sunrise over Loch Avon in the Cairngorms.

Earth is the only planet in our Solar System where fire can exist. In fact, while we know about a lot of hot things existing in the universe, Earth is the only known celestial body that has enough oxygen to support a combustion

After many years in psychology, I happen to publish in Nature! (Astronomy) 🙂 #Science

We will try to let you see the stars with your ears! 💪

Hello #ScienceMastodon! I am an Associate Professor in Psychology at University of Padua. I study #hearing #perception and the relationship between #perception and #cognition I also developed tools for research in #hearing #perception (one new coming out soon). I support #openscience

In my free time #kayak and #rowing If you pop by here I’ll take you paddling in the #venice #lagoon

Here's a really nice introduction article to the #astronomy field of research I am currently working in.

You've heard of Gravitational Waves (GWs) - but did you also know there is a GW spectrum - and much like the EM spectrum, different sources produce different frequencies of GWs.

The GWs we've so far discovered are generated by stellar mass black holes and neutron stars, but the research I am involved with is searching for GWs generated by supermassive black holes (SMBHs) - found in the hearts of galaxies. These SMBHs give off their gravitational radiation as galaxies merge and collide.

Though these are nanohertz frequencies and have wave periods lasting not seconds, but decades! So, we can't use terrestrial detectors to discover them. Instead, we use pulsars located around the Galaxy - each as an analogue to a giant interferometer arm.

This Thursday I am submitting my Master's Thesis on this very topic! For the last 12 months I have assessed 10 new millisecond pulsars to see how they improve the Parkes Pulsar Timing Array's sensitivity to detecting these GWs.
