Ruins of gas chamber and crematorium II at Auschwitz II-Birkenau. Fragments of the chimney.

We need to remember that those buildings did not fall from the sky. They were designed by educated people who accepted the Nazi ideology and used their knowledge and experience to design efficient infrastructure of murder.

I went hiking in the Ozarks on Saturday morning and stumbled on a small patch of frost flowers!

This is the first time I've seen them, and I was surprised to see them this late in the year. Frost flowers typically form during the first few hard freezes of fall when sap in certain small plants freezes, rupturing the stem and forcing water out. The water freezes on contact with the air and builds up into distinctive flower-shaped petals!

@hurrynot you can read through the end of the article, last 2 paragraphs.

Restoration of a heritage building like this can be quite an expensive affair. The owner leased it out on the condition that it won't be demolished and the original structure will be retained.

@vinayaravind

I definitely feel I would have got most of the Hindi words, but I also ticked off a whole lot of words that I thought should be legit worlds even if they aren't 😂🙈

From what I've read, the original stone columns and woodwork have been retained and the walls painted with lime scale, as they would have been in the early 20th century. Some parts, which I didn't manage to capture, had wooden flooring, which I read somewhere was also the original flooring that had been .

The viewing galleries are now balcony corridors leading to various rooms within the experience center.

This place is definitely worth a visit, especially considering how very few buildings in are actually restored with this painstaking detail!

For most of my life growing up in , I remember quickly walking past this building without giving it a second glance. Standing at the junction of Brigade Road and Resicency road this was in a largely disheveled condition through most of the 80s and 90s; and known for shady activities (it was used as a theater to play B-grade movies at one point).

This is the Bangalore built in the 1930s, for the colonial residents of the British Bangalore cantonment. In the early years it was used as a theater, opera and also a space where boxing matches were held between troops who arrived during .

One of the few Goth buildings of Bangalore that hasn't been razed to the ground, thanks to a court order, this building has been painstakingly restored by the Korean electronic company - .

@niketagrawal @vinayaravind

Hey no worries. Was just checking to make sure I didn't mess up at my end. I do have slow internet! 🙂

Goodluck with the research!

I did this #Hindi #vocabulary test from IIT Kanpur's #language lab and scored 79.13% it was weird and fun to do and helps with their research. Takes 10 mins. Try it out and tell me what you score!! Do Boost for reach.

PS. Results take a couple of hours to arrive by email. So a very Mastodon experience, if you ask me.

@vinayaravind @niketagrawal

When you say a couple of hours, how long exactly? Coz I look the test 3 hours back and haven't yet gotten the result but my friend got his in 20mins.

Wondering now if I did it right 🤔. Don't want to mess the research data up by taking it twice.

@vinayaravind and thanks to the rains in Chennai, Bangalore has gotten colder than ever.

Over the past few days I have noticed fog/smog all around me in the afternoon. Quite windy too!

@mehluv very useful Post!

Quick question, when someone whom I follow changes instances, do I still continue to follow them or do I have to look them up and re-follow?

On a clear night in Kinlochleven in November, the Milky Way is visible down the loch. This shot took several attempts as the high road to the village runs to the left of this image. A 30 second exposure meant it took a bit of good timing to avoid light trails from the few cars which did venture down that night. This image was taken next to the slipway area in Kinlochleven.
