I am a #neurobiologist at the University of Magdeburg
After a PhD @bccnberlin with Michael Brecht and a postdoc with Susana Lima at the Champalimaud Foundation I recently joined the institute of biology in Magdeburg as a tenured researcher and professor.
My lab will study how neural circuits are at the interface between the multimodal environment and the homeostatic body in order to drive social and sexual behavior in mice.

One thing that Mastodon newcomers may not realize is how easy it is to turn Mastodon for web into essentially a Tweetdeck clone, with columns for search/compose, home, notifications, and any lists you've set up. It takes literally seconds.

Here's what mine looks like right now:

BIG NEWS: Pawoo.net, the world's 2nd biggest Mastodon instance, has just been acquired.

The entity acquiring them is the Mask Group, an entity that also runs mstdn.jp and mastodon.cloud. They are also active in the so-called "Web 3.0" space.

If you haven't heard of pawoo.net, it's because many instances have de-federated from it.

Excited to share our new manuscript on a novel #neuropeptide family that regulates #feeding across #evolution. Kudos to #Pat_TFrancisco for tackling this challenging project and coming up with the name #marmite. #homeostasis biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/20 Still figuring this space out. In the meantime if you want to check out the thread on the competing platform (links to the competition are allowed here?). twitter.com/RibeiroCarlitos/st #drosophila

Hello world!
I have been studying cilia since 2005, been modestly active on Twitter since 2014 and will be posting about anything related to #cilia, #signaling, #BardetBiedlSyndrome

A remix of a video I made got published on the NIH director's blog this morning. directorsblog.nih.gov/2022/12/.

I would only add there is a whole team of people behind this project and data, and I certainly didn't reconstruct this neuron myself. You can check out the proper credits on microns-explorer.org where you can get all these data and meshes and make your own visualizations if you want.

#introduction
Hi, #neuroscience community.

I'm an assistant professor at the University of Washington who works at the intersection of engineering and neuroscience. I am excited about using engineering tools like closed-loop motor brain-computer interfaces as tools to probe basic neuroscience questions, and using insights about the brain to improve functionality of BCI applications.

My lab's current work
1) explores using BCIs as tools to begin unravelling how learning computations happen in neural populations
2) studies the interactions between users who learn alongside algorithms ("co-adaptation").
3) investigates how brains build "internal models", with a current interest in how to quantify internal model formation behaviorally.
We use both animal models (non-human primates) and human subject experiments. We also collaborate closely with computational and theoretical neuroscientists.

Trying out this thing as an alternative to Twitter. I'm already intimidated by the space to write and minimal pressure to edit.

We identified >100000 novel virus contigs from transcript assemblies by looking for known amino acidmotifs, e.g. RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. We e.g. identify several novel bunyaviruses that mingle into the phylogenetic tree.

To summarize:
- Longitudinal profiling enables to track detailed dynamics of human viruses.
- Low-abundant human (particularly respiratory) viruses can be detected using enrichments.
- Substantial enlargement of planetary virome knowledge.
