"Trump has left no doubt that he is a violent authoritarian who intends to reject any election that does not restore him to power ... This should be said every day, in every medium," @RadioFreeTom writes in The Atlantic Daily. https://www.theatlantic.com/newsletters/archive/2023/03/trump-sings-a-song-of-sedition/673535/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=share
Spring seems to be particularly late this year here in Luxembourg, however the first few tulips and daffodils are now in bloom.
We are still feeding the local bird population with prolific quantities of sunflower seeds and fat balls. For most of the winter, the only birds at the bird feeders were sparrows with an occasional visit from a Robin and a nuthatch. During the past few weeks, the range of birds in the garden has expanded enormously. We now have chaffinches, green finches, yellowhammers, Blue tits, great tits to add to the permanent population of sparrows.
I have also spotted this year’s first butterfly, a brimstone and the first few bumble bees are starting to make an appearance.
By the way, I was shocked to hear that Bruce Dickinson, Roger Daltry (The Who, the blond one) and Noel Gallagher are rather nationalist knobheads.
When we were kids, me, my older brother, my mum & dad would get in the car for a daytrip or whatever, and singing at the top of our lungs songs from Oasis, etc
Such a fucking shame!
We're about start another cycle of handwringing from Republicans about the influence of video games, violent movies, declining religious attendance, and access to mental health treatments on tragedies like this. They will blame everything but the actual problem.

Every single one of their talking points requires their supporters to forget that there is a world outside America where people come from broken families, don’t go to church, and play the exact same violent video games, but don’t end up slaughtering the people around them

"Years ago, anthropologist Margaret Mead was asked by a student what she considered to be the first sign of civilization in a culture. The student expected Mead to talk about fishhooks or clay pots or grinding stones.
But no.
Mead said that the first sign of civilization in an ancient culture was a femur (thighbone) that had been broken and then healed.
Mead explained that in the animal kingdom, if you break your leg, you die.
You cannot run from danger, get to the river for a drink or hunt for food.
You are meat for prowling beasts.
No animal survives a broken leg long enough for the bone to heal.
A broken femur that has healed is evidence that someone has taken time to stay with the one who fell, has bound up the wound, has carried the person to safety and has tended the person through recovery.
Helping someone else through difficulty is where civilization starts, Mead said."

For anyone who is interested, my header photo is of the most stupendous sunset I have ever seen. On the right is the waterfront of Vientiane, the capital of Laos, on the left is Thailand and in the middle, acting as the border between the two countries is the mighty Mekong river.
