Atheist; loathe almost all religions and pity the people deluded enough to follow them. I make exceptions for Buddhism as it isn't really a religion in the strictest sense of the word as it doesn't postulate the existence of any god, and Jainism which is the epitome of peace.
For anyone who is interested, my header photo is of the most stupendous sunset I have ever seen. On the right is the waterfront of Vientiane, the capital of Laos, on the left is Thailand and in the middle, acting as the border between the two countries is the mighty Mekong river.

I remember the Yom Kippur war in 1973; my father was the Norwegian ambassador to Israel at the time, and he and I were taking the dog for a walk. When we crossed the main highway from Tel Aviv to Haifa there was a convoy of military vehicles heading north, and he stopped, then said we had to go home.
Also, around that time, there was an increase in military presense around us. I learned later that was because Mossad agents had been arrested in Norway for killing an innocent Palestinian in Lillehammer who they thought was a PLO agent. Extremist settlers in Israel had made a credible threat to kidnap the Norwegian ambassador and his children (my sister and me) in order to force Norway to release the agents.

Q. does doctors' climate activism (and arrest for protesting) bring the medical profession into disrepute?.
for some time the General Medical Council has maintained it does & has suspended doctors for such political actions.
The GMC focusses on the legal issue (prosecution) while members of the profession are focussing on the political issue when they argue the GMC should not 'double punish' climate protesting doctors.
The GMC needs to rethink!

The greatest paradox in the US election is, how almost every conversation on the right is about mistrust — mistrust in the government, in the legal system, in science, mistrust in everything — and yet for some reason the right wants you to trust Donald Trump.
Not because he has a solid reputation, a proven track record, or because he presents carefully crafted, verifiable plans. There is no basis for trusting Trump — you just have to believe.
To me, this is not politics. This is religion.

Covid demonstrated that people would balk at even the mildest inconvenience without strong, consistent global leadership. Once that leadership faltered it was back to business as usual.
The sacrifices we must make to fight climate change are orders of magnitude more painful than those of Covid. Even the easiest things such as banning bitcoin, or removing the aircraft fuel tax subsidy, appear to be beyond our willpower.
And as we agonise, emissions continue to rise.

What's extraordinary about this is that it's all just assumed. Republicanism (or American Nazism) is normal because it has to be normal, because if it wasn't normal we'd have a lot of things to unpack and fix and solve, and that might get us into time and money.

Doesn't the mindless old duffer realise that civilized countries have had such arrangements in place for countless years.
As a cancer sufferer myself I am comforted by the fact that in Luxembourg where I live, physician assisted suicide is legal so if it gets unbearable I won't have to suffer it right to the bitter end!
