@fixatedpersonsunit @LovesTha There seems to be an assumption in the media, and among investors, and in the White House, that Trump's trade wars will go something like this:

1) Trump imposes tariff taxes on a country.

2) Country matches tariff taxes, to which Trump further raises tariff taxes.

3) Tariff taxes hurt the other country more than the US, because the US is a bigger economy than the other country. Other country caves and gives Trump concessions.

But what if other countries don't play that game?

International capitalist trade depends on other countries doing things like recognising US intellectual property.

There's literally trillions of dollars of market capitalisation tied up in other countries recognising US IP. Think companies like Disney, or Nike, or McDonald's, or big tech patents, or big pharma patents.

Another country responding to Trump's tariff taxes by no longer recognising US IP creates a precedent that other countries can follow. That puts that value at risk.

And even if the US responds by not recognising the other country's IP, that hurts the US far more than the other country.

Just the prospect that other countries might put McDonald's and Disney's IP could wipe trillions off the US stock market.

Dear Elon Musk, protesting is not a crime. Organizing online to protest isn't a crime either, even if you don't like the protesters' goals. We oppose any efforts to mislabel peaceful protesting as illegal—protests are foundational to our democracy.

What's the most common feedback/comment I've received over the past month? "I used to like reading your stuff when you didn't write about politics all the time."

My response: Me too. But they've left me no choice at this point. If you think tech isn't politics and vice versa, you probably don't believe national security and cybersecurity are two sides of the same coin, either.
