Let's say you had a 7GB video file on a mac machine that you need to get to a linux machine and can't use a wireless technology.
The linux machine won't read the external mac disk. The mac won't read the external linux disk (and fucked up reformatting it, so now it's dead forever). So you go and get an SD card, which is FAT formatted, but this has a maximum file size of 4 GB.
Solution: use the command line version of zip.
Put all your files (or just the one in this case) into a folder called 'videos'. Then AT THE COMMAND LINE type:
zip videos videos
Do not use finder or any other program to make the zip file.
Then, at the command line again:
zip videos.zip videoSplit.zip -s 3g
(The second one must end with a letter.) Put all the files on to your SD card and get them on to your FAT drive.
Copy them to linux. Then:
cat videoSplit.z* > videos.zip
unzip videos.zip
