Path to "sudo" may be different on specific systems of course.
Reasons are many but include that it is never a good idea to share passwords, especially admin-ones, for both the obvious security risk but also for the complexity of changing such passwords once shared widely. Using "sudo" with "su" of course only requires each user knowing their OWN password and allows for easy recalling of specific privileges if needed.
Yes, "sudo" now has the "-i" option, but in accordance with the UNIX principle, it is better to use tools specifically made for each purpose than tools that "can also do that"... and "su" is required to exist on every system by UNIX-standards (while "sudo" isn't, but should).
