Just had a guy and his two kids in the shop, the oldest was 4 1/2, she told me so proudly ... She had a beautiful lavender cardigan on and matching socks ... I told her I loved that colour, we had a little chat about purple and all the purple things we have ... Then she asked me "are you a girl?" ... I looked at her dad and said can I let her know, he said yes

I crouched down to her level and said "that's a nice question you asked" ... and then said "I was born a boy, yuck, and for many reasons I always felt like a girl" ... Her eyes lit up, and I got a huge hugz and she whispered in my ear, "you're a girl"

I am more than likely the first trans person she has met, I made her feel comfortable and listened to ... one at a time ... Her dad thanked me for being kind.

Never dismiss a childs question, you might feel they are abrupt, they are not, they just want to know

First impression are important

Actual poll: overwhelming majorities support laws prohibiting discrimination against trans people.

WaPo headline and reporter's tweet: "Most Americans support anti-trans policies favored by GOP."

Just straight-up lying.

There's been a lot of talk today about Henry Kissinger's upcoming 100th birthday, but I've yet to see Anthony Bourdain's quote about that war criminal scroll by, and it can't be shared enough.

This Week:
—FL GOP banned DACA status lawyers from practicing law
—NC GOP legalized voter discrimination against Black citizens
—TX GOP gave the Governor power to unilaterally overturn election results

THIS WHAT FASCISM AND ELECTION FRAUD LOOKS LIKE.

Abolish the filibuster—Pass Voting Rights.

Since the GOP is so big on "parental rights" these days, maybe they could push for the right of parents not to have to bury their children.

It was Thursday night and we were chilling on the intellectual dark web. Jordan was torrenting the James Watson bootleg that just dropped. Pinker was like “You know what doesn’t matter in science anymore?” Cowen guessed “GRE scores?” but no and Lindsay said “the art of the blade?” and everyone was all wait how the fuck did he get back in here and by the time that got sorted it was bedtime but when Pinker dropped a truth bomb “merit” we knew there would be no sleep to be has for us that night.

I don't know who needs to hear this but

The postal service exists to deliver letters and parcels to people
Not to make money for shareholders

The transport system exists to move people to where they need to go
Not to make money for shareholders

The water, gas, and electricity supplies exist to provide people vital utilities
Not to make money for shareholders

The healthcare system exists to ensure (and that's ENsure, not INsure) the health of the population
Not to make money for shareholders

Shareholders in vital public services are a vampiric drain on those services

Capitalism is a disease

"Roughly 20 years ago, Martin, Thomas and the Crows went on a cruise on the yacht in Russia and the Baltics, according to Martin and two other people familiar with the trip. The group toured St. Petersburg in a rented helicopter and visited the Yusupov Palace, the site of Rasputin’s murder, said one of the people. They were joined by Chris DeMuth, then the president of the conservative think tank the American Enterprise Institute."

They always end up visiting russia at some point 🤔

Remarkable that I've given more money to Fox News in the last 5 years than I have to all political candidates in my life.

I saw someone point out today that to a French speaker “ChatGPT” reads like “Cat, I farted” (« Chat, j’ai pété ») and now that is what I am going to think of every time I see it mentioned.

I'm not arguing w the fact that AI poses risks. I AM ceaselessly annoyed by the pattern

This is not new or novel. It was women -
@timnitGebru, @mmitchell_ai, me, et al - who rang the AI alarm years ago & were retaliated against, pushed out for doing so.

no shade to anyone, but for all of the leftists who have a dream of buying a piece of land and living on a commune somewhere out in the middle of nowhere, it would be nice if there were a few more whose dream was to move into the same apartment complex and organize a militant tenants union

@jeffjarvis written by someone who clearly does not understand that humans have been finding ways to be in the same room or in public not interacting with each other since the start of rooms. May I introduce him to books and newspapers (I mean, you could create a whole people blocking cone with an open newspaper). People are lonely because of capitalism and not having enough time to chill with friends and family, and because advertising keeps telling us we're not beautiful/rich/perfect enough to be loved (even if we buy all the things meant to solve this) and that being vulnerable (essential for intimacy) means you are weak and deserve to be harmed. Capitalism is making us lonely, not phones or the internet (which are means to communicate with each other but capitalism has turned them into marketing tools and us into product trying to market ourselves as we fight for attention as a poor substitute for intimate connection and truly being seen and accepted).
