Slave collars were thirty pound iron contraptions with spikes, rods, and bells locked around your neck for days to punish those who tried unsuccessfully to run away. Also available in child sizes. #developedskills #personalbenefit

On this Florida plantation, it was a tradition: enslave Africans for generations, allow a few of them to become blacksmiths, and then enjoy their gratitude for educating them. But now the woke is trying to take all that away.

Trump will benefit from incarceration in Florida because it will teach him useful skills.

One of my favourite things on Tiktok a few weeks ago was when Ben Shapiro did a video reacting to some queer teen’s tiktok videos, and the kid did a response video and had no idea who Ben Shapiro was and felt like they were “punching down” because “he only has 1/4 the followers I do”.

The kids are good, and we need to do what we can to support them.

Are you finding Mastodon to be less vibrant and active?

I’m worried that we are not getting as much engagement on our Ukraine war reporting as we used to.

We are trying to decide which social media platforms to continue posting on, given how much effort it takes to replicate across all of them.

If you want to send a signal to us that we should keep posting here, will you sign up for our newsletter? Counteroffensive.substack.com

I’m only asking Mastodon users today so we can gauge impact.

I saw a this screenshot of a sam altman tweet and I had hoped it was a joke but oh god oh no oh fuck it's real oh shit.

Honestly, part of me is still clinging to a bare shred of hope that he's joking, because the idea that someone who misunderstands shit This Badly gets lauded as a genius and invited to the white house and fêted to help craft literal life-altering national policy? Holy SHIT.

I mean just… holy fucking SHIT.

@GottaLaff The problem is that in order to capitalize on these indictments, Trump's opponents would have to denounce sexual violence, corruption, and gross abuse of power, and none of the republican primary contenders might be in a position to criticize someone for conduct they themselves are guilty of.

Rowley boosted

@GottaLaff On the one hand, it’ll keep Trump crimes fresh in voter minds.

On the other hand we’ll have another election cycle where we talk about a candidate crimes instead of how to address housing and health care costs (among many other issues)

People that will vote for Trump will still vote for him and people that won’t, wont. Independents have made up their minds as have moderates.

The media will broadcast the circus and we kick the “democracy is struggling” can down the road again. 😟

@StillIRise1963 I should have stated this, but that bullshit is so craven and wrong and offensive and obviously a *lie*, that I don’t have words sufficient to describe how deeply offensive I find that morally bankrupt lie. There was *nothing* that was not profoundly evil and morally rotten about slavery. Especially the race-based chattel slavery of the US.

In 1950, the annual harvest of seaweed in Orkney and Shetland increased by 400%. Why?

ORCADIAN CHERRIES or CHELLIES were synthetic cocktail cherries made from seaweed and were produced from 1949 onwards. Most went to cocktail bars in the USA.

If we are heading toward an ecological collapse sooner than predicted, when are people gonna just rise up and tear down the companies killing us and polluting the earth for short-term profits? Isn't the time now?

Like, we're in for a world of hurt.

Parable of the Sower is becoming our reality and as much as I adore Octavia Butler, this is not the future I wanted.

I wanted a solarpunk future of mutual aid and library economy. Not fucking billionaires killing us all as they fight one another in cage fights for fun. Ugh.

On point.

The cure for petrol-fueled, car-centric development isn’t EVs. It’s to pivot to non-car-centric alternatives. This needs to be shouted from every rooftop, and demanded of every politician.

Cars are the most expensive and wasteful option.
