@sciencebase This thing was a stamp-size grill in the plastic case with a mic under it. It used it unless you plugged in one to pretend you were Robert Plant.

@sciencebase It ate batteries. Four of those big cylinder ones per recording session (day at school). It had a "condenser mic" built in, whatever one of those is.

@sciencebase I used to play back the tapes and I had an actual LP of bird song to compared it with.

@davidallengreen The ones from Ashbourne (Derbyshire) must be considered although they call them gingerbread.

@sciencebase Are there any butterflies which have huge feathery ones? I can't think of one.

@sciencebase I hadn't noticed that. Nor on the Burnets. Something for me to look out for, there are loads of both round here in the Summer.

@xahteiwi You are right. Planes go from where you are not, to where you don't want to be, but closer. With a big wait at each stage.😩

@sciencebase Even Buxton isn't really though there are many plants which we see here in Lincs which never show there. Even though it's always raining and feels freezing.

@sciencebase Whenever I see distribution maps, there is a clear effect of latitude but I never see height affecting it much. It does with plants tho. That's rather odd to me.
