A good piece on how the Indian community in the US has overcome the adversity that immigrants usually face (racism, xenophobia, etc) and how this 1️⃣% percent of the U.S. population has made an outsized impact and punched well above its weight 👇🏾

Just came across a lovely #QuartoPub website by Carl Goodwin (he’s not, as far as I can see, on social media). Good #rstats content, super artwork. The homepage image switch between light and dark modes is glorious. https://www.quantumjitter.com
At the end of World War II the Nazis burned an Austrian castle full of masterpieces, including three paintings by Gustav Klimt entitled Philosophy, Medicine, and Jurisprudence. Until now, they were preserved for posterity only in black and white photographs.
Reconstructed in colour, they are now on display in an online gallery of 130 paintings, plus a virtual exhibition of 63 of the artist’s works, all brought together by Google Arts & Culture.

Puzzle 8 was a little butt-kicker to make simple and correct. Nice.
I just completed "Calorie Counting" - Day 1 - Advent of Code 2022 #AdventOfCode https://adventofcode.com/2022/day/1
Done with #Rstats. Nothing too fancy.
I'm thrilled to announce that #quarto's v1.2 is now a stable release.
If I counted right, there's around 150 bugfixes and additions since we released 1.1 on Aug 26th. Give it a spin! We'd love to hear from you: https://quarto.org/docs/download/
Lots of *very cool* features coming up on v1.3. I can't wait to tell you about them when they land!

It's actually pretty amazing that a open source product developed by a tiny non-profit, running on a network of servers self-funded by volunteer administrator and moderators has managed to absorb some portion of one of the world's largest for-profit social networks.
It's a miracle the whole thing didn't collapse or catch fire.
Great job everyone.
Music theory is full of fun mathematical patterns - like this commutative cube! You can read about it on my blog:
https://johncarlosbaez.wordpress.com/2022/11/06/modes-part-2/
But what's the basic idea? Starting with the major scale
1 2 3 4 5 6 7
we can create various other interesting scales by flatting the 3rd, 6th or 7th notes: that is, lowering them a half-step. (Flatting the 2nd or 5th note is much more drastic, and flatting the 1 changes the key entirely.)
Let's see how it works....
