Someone just mentioned the differences between #Twitter and #Google regarding user data. Yes, indeed.
I've worked inside #Google twice. Their explicit rules, approvals, logging and "need to know" requirements for access to user data are most impressive. Anyone even attempting to access user data inappropriately is fired and marched out the door by security. This is part of why I have a great deal of trust in Google, and consider Elon's #Twitter to be utterly untrustworthy and totally beneath contempt.
If someone calls claiming to be from your financial institution - even if they sound very much like what you'd expect from a bank and say that it's an urgent matter - ask them for a case reference number and tell them you'll call them back at the 1-800 number on the bank's website.
The fraudsters are really out in force at the moment.

Your SSID should always be a joke that your neighbors don't get until they see it for the fiftieth time.
@pwgtennant causal understanding is only useful in closed systems where it’s actually feasible to derive causality through first principles.
No complex open system in real life supports deriving conclusions without extensive empirical support, whose authority is always temporary and imperfect.
We’ve known since Hume that reason alone is insufficient. To suggest a smart enough AI will be unbiased is wishful thinking.
@pwgtennant No.
There is no way to remove bias in training data about subjective information. No architecture change will ever do that and it is disingenuous to suggest that's ever a possibility.
As cybersecurity researchers detail a flaw that allowed them to unlock and start Honda and Nissan cars from anywhere in the world, border and immigration agencies are buying up tech to exploit weaknesses in vehicle security. https://www.forbes.com/sites/thomasbrewster/2022/12/01/10000-cars-can-be-data-raided-by-police-ice-cbp-love-it/ #CyberSecurity #privacy #automobiles #infotainment
@samgreenberg doesn’t seem that dissimilar from a density map tbh
Fellow academics:
Strongly consider changing your syllabi now, and designing assignments that can't be fulfilled by #AI chatbots. Even better, consider only assigning work that students will actually be excited to do themselves (for instance, autobiographical essays).
I just got OpenAI to write a better essay on #minstrelsy & US #popmusic than most of my UG students could muster, in about 1 second.

Yale study finds excess deaths during the Covid-19 pandemic were impacted by political affiliation and that the partisan gap in death rates increased significantly after vaccines were introduced.
