Currently sitting on my balcony, in sweatpants, blasting Tschaikowsky's 1812 Overture while the biggest fucking thunderstorm is going down.

Life is good.

Please take a few minutes of your time to watch this.
Corporate greed is always shit but it's especially shitty when it's in the pharmaceutical sector.

Just drove to work and had the most gorgeous view of an orange sky, thunderclouds rolling in and the alps in the background.

I don't know how I managed to love in a city for over 6 years

Just bought some water ice. Nothing weird to see here. Now get your mind out of the gutter while I'm slurpin' some bussy.

So my brother recently got a hamster (which he adores) and now I'm building him a hamster wheel speedometer for his birthday.

I mean, it's been fifteen fucking years. we know what Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey are about. they've shown us their whole entire asses. we've seen them radicalize our uncles and put Nazis onto the streets.

but the second they dangle a toy in front of us with the vague scent of FOMO and ground floor clout, that whole history gets thrown away and we're back to repeating history like it's 2007 all over again.

Since moving, I have started to expand my plant collection by growing various trees from seeds with the intention of turning them into bonsai.
A lot of them actually started sprouting but now some kind of fungus or insect is affecting them.

I really hope at least some of them are pulling through because at this point I'm easy too invested

Astronomers Map out the Radio Waves Coming from Large Satellite Constellations

You've heard that satellite constellations like Starlink are a problem for astronomers and their telescopes. Because the satellites are communicating with radio waves, they're also an issue for radio astronomers. A new study used the Low-Frequency Array to observe 68 Starlink satellites as they flew overhead. The telescopes could detect the "unintended electromagnetic radiation" emanating from electronics onboard the Starlink satellites. These could impact radio observations, and unlike visible light, the glare isn't coming from reflected light but emissions from the satellites themselves.

Zeit für den ersten Post! Zeit für Battle Sister Progress-Bilder!

The funny thing is that it's not so much about the engineering and problem solving aspect of it. More often than not, it's just simple logistics. Basic flight-ready components have huge delivery times (sometimes more than a year) and PCB manufacturers are running at full capacity.

Me as an amateur space enthusiast: "Why do these cool missions constantly get delayed? It can't be that hard to make a realistic estimate..."

Me, a few weeks into working in the space industry: "Ohhhhhh...."

There is one good thing about the recent rise of ebikes: Nobody's gonna steal my 20 year old mountain bike when there is a 5000€ ebike with a shitty lock right next to it

It's so weird how your job becomes a huge part of how other people view and treat you. And how unfairly some jobs are seen as more respectable than others, especially in the social and care sector

If you have a conflict between independent science on the one side and market forces/economic factors on the other side, there is no compromise.

Between the unchanging laws of nature and a human-made system to quantify value, exactly one side can be influenced, changed and compromised with.

This has been like this with tobacco, chlorofluorocarbons, DDT, fossil fuels, neonicotinoids, endocrine disruptors... The list goes on.

Yet, more often than not, independent science is ignored by those in power for the benefit of lobby groups, industry and more "realistic" and less "idealistic" solutions. Leave those people in an enclosed space with a car engine running and ask them again, which is more "real": The molecules in the air or the money in their wallets.
