@siina turn your hobby into work and you will burn out in no time

hot take: struggle, and perhaps even suffering, is good. the core of self-actualization is embracing the struggle

One thing I am thinking is that, with a network here that is <1% the size of my Twitter network, maybe I could get back to saying things that are more emotionally open, or where it makes me more vulnerable. I miss telling some of my truths.

When it came time to reckon with social media’s failings, nobody ran to the “web3” platforms. Nobody asked “can I get paid per message”? Nobody asked about the blockchain. The community of people who’ve been quietly doing this work for years (decades!) ended up being the ones who welcomed everyone over, as always.

When I wrote this piece about the #twittermigration of #sciencetwitter last week, #Mastodon had gained 100,000 users since Musk’s purchase of Twitter.
When I updated it a few days ago, it was half a million.
Now, @Gargron just announced that there are 1 million more users.
The speed and scale of this is remarkable and I know that countless people worked hard to manage it. Thank you!

"Each year the man of the sand would rise to life. We children would go to see him and make a wish. More sweets. Better dads. If the earth beneath him growled this meant it was ready to take him home and our wish would soon come true. We had to be careful, the ground would rather eat a child than take back the man of the sand."

Not often do I remember my dreams, but this night I was approached by some kids and their mother; The kids wanted to offer me a cookie. I rejected the cookie and started to explain my 16:8 intermittent fasting schedule to them.

Two things; In my dreams, people actually want to hear about intermittent fasting—secondly, my dream required me to accept or decline a cookie. Perhaps they are needed to improve my dreams? I will for sure read the fine print if my dreams should present some.

@AnarchoNinaWrites @disco_socialist@mastodon.social left wing Twitter glows so bad. They have the Lindi Li stink all over them.

@AnarchoNinaWrites @disco_socialist@mastodon.social To see anything at all that’s pro-actually existing socialism, pro-Cuba or pro-DPRK… there’s Luna with her rice field and Amanda in New York with her cats. That’s it.

@AnarchoNinaWrites @disco_socialist@mastodon.social the thing that’s interesting about Twitter is that there’s, like, four tankie accounts total. There entire left-wing of Twitter is all YPG/DSA young Turks enjoyers.

Thanks for this excellent paper @claesdevreese

“To date, studies have primarily examined which strategies news organisations employ to counteract potential shortcomings of algorithmic technologies that stem from their non-journalistic origin. These involve stronger human oversight over algorithms, editorial control, the technological implementation of features such as transparency & diversity ...
