Inspiring speeches at the #ucurising rally today in Oxford. Plenty of #solidarity among workers and between students and university staff. Did you know students can join #UCU for free?

Proud that so many City UoL staff joined the picket line today

It’s a f**king outrage that we’re told to work harder & more & given tokenistic thank yous, but haven’t had real wage ☝️ since 2009. This is set against unis making 💰💰💰 & more of it going to management.

There are strikes going on at UK universities. I am not on strike as I am in Kolkata and jobless! But standing in solidarity with all staff on strike. I didn't know what else to do today so I made some aloo ke paranthe. #ucurising

Great to see colleagues and students calling for better working conditions and learning environments!! Much solidarity out there #ucuRISING #WEareWestminster #Strike #industrialaction #solidarity @ucu.westminster@mas.to

Proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with my amazing #geography colleagues in the fight for a better future for UK higher education. #ucuRISING

Here's a snap of the picket line at #Swansea uni earlier this morning, lots of solidarity honks from passers-by and just before we all got drenched! Glad to stand with colleagues to defend pay and working conditions for all academic and professional staff. #UCURising

Today I’m striking too:

🪧 End causlisaion and insecure contracts
🪧 End excessive workloads
🪧 Equal pay and fair pay rises
🪧 Protect our pensions

That many university VCs are threatening 100% pay cuts for action short of strike i.e. just doing the work you are paid to do tells you everything about the sickness of UK higher education. #ucuRISING

📣 The UK university sector is at breaking point & staff are standing up for a better future for this fundamental public institution #UCUstrike

Why❓
✅ Improving working conditions
✅ Reversing large pension cuts
✅ Tackling inequalities
✅ Stopping pay cuts.

Staff's working conditions are students' learning conditions.

Who/Where❓ librarians, IT workers, admin & professional services, early career researchers, academics… at 150 UK universities.

Scenes from #Edinburgh today 👇 #ucuRISING

I stand in solidarity with our 70,000 colleagues in the British academe, which include academic support staff at 150 universities across the UK, comprising lecturers, librarians, researchers, teachers, support staff and other members of the University and College Union.

Diminishing pay, lack of tenurial security, declining working conditions & pension cuts have caused untold hardships on our friends & colleagues at this time of economic turmoil & uncertainty.

UK university strike

UK university staff are on action short of strike as of today, and on strike this week and next. If you would like to know why we are fighting for better pay, working conditions and pensions, follow @ucu or the #UCURising hashtag, or look at signing the picket line pledge https://www.ucu.org.uk/supportthestrikes.

There's a digital picket as well so I am going to stop posting work-related items. I may post more strike-related content so please feel free to unfollow/mute as not everything will have a CW.
