Two scientists walk into a bar.
The first one says "Hello barkeep. I'll have H20."
The second one says "I'll have H20 too"
The bartender brings out their drinks. The second scientist dies.

Yet another insidious move from #Google! Now when you give permission to Google Maps to access your location, you're also giving that permission to all the other Google products (Meet, Drive, etc).
Solution : Ditch Google whenever you can. However, if you have to open a Google URL, best way to do it is in incognito mode.

I think it’s important to repeat: you don't "have something to hide" when you put blinds on your windows or close the door when you're on the can or wear clothes.
Privacy isn't about having something to hide. It's not about keeping secrets. It's about you being the person who chooses what you reveal about yourself, and when, and to who, and the other word we have for that is "dignity". Your inherent dignity, as a human being.
Your privacy is the agency you have over your dignity.

"#Facebook will pay $725 million to settle a class-action lawsuit filed in 2018. The lawsuit came in the wake of Facebooks revelation that it had improperly shared data on 87 million users with #CambridgeAnalytica, a British political consultancy tied to former President Donald Trump's election campaign." Frankly, the amount is too small, and should instead be more crippling to Meta. If it's not punitive enough to strike abject horror industry-wide, it's insufficient https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2022/12/meta-to-pay-725-million-to-settle-cambridge-analytica-lawsuit/
More & more convinced that making key public goods - transport, waste, health, education, social media, energy etc - non-profit commons may be the most important climate strategy of all.
With privatisation shareholder profit determines all the decisions & policies of these providers - not what is best for planet & people. If we as a society agree that these should just be realms for the common good, not for profit, then sustainable policies can be adopted swiftly, at every level

Oh. my. god.
Madison Square Garden used facial recognition to identify and stop a mom from attending a Christmas show with her kid because she's an attorney at a firm who is engaged in litigation with them.
Ban this shit yesterday.

"The insidious nature of such generative #AI models is that they produce plausible sounding #health information in a smooth conversational style, that is at best is generic in nature and at worst completely fictional. The problem is that most people cannot tell the difference between the two." The #ethics of AI is going to be a topic that won't gain traction until either normies start dying in numbers, or techbros start getting sued into oblivion. https://medium.com/@guruduth.banavar/chatgpts-deep-fake-text-generation-is-a-threat-to-evidence-based-discourse-c096164207e0
