@cjd Yeah, unrelated to my reminiscing on the rs232 internet. 56k wire links between peers.
@cjd Would you use NNCP? It purpots to be a modernized UUCP with encryption, authentication, and support for very low bandwidth and stopping and resuming transfers.
@cjd That was de rigeur for me from 1980 to 1995. First uunet, with uucp as the primary engine. Then internet connections were peer to peer. First rs232 to a neighbor. A 24x7 phone call with modems. Later, coax, ethernet, wifi.
It was a sad day when the world was sold on centralized internet access starting around 1996. We still kept up peer to peer connections via tunnels and later VPN tunnels.
@PNS Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman who lacks discretion. Proverbs 11:22
@truthbait @elston_ Elston was trying to say Jews are an exceptional people - that's why they are overrepresented in so many intellectual fields. Germans are overrepresented in science, engineering, math, music - they are also an exceptional people.
I might add that both are overrepresented in the super-villain business as well.
@PNS My first thought was "persecuted journalist". But then all his pics were in bathrooms - just a Peeping Tom.
@PNS Neutering our dogs and cats doesn't result in dead eyes. It is something beyond that.
@PNS I'm guessing she was pulled over for texting while driving ?
@cjd @MSP_SMIMSA @truthbait What about a mentally ill human?
@cjd I like "Surreal Numbers" by Donald Knuth. Used set theory to extend numbers (Courtesy J. H. Conway) and compute answers to 1÷0 (which is distinct from 2÷0 which is again distinct from 0÷0). There a whole math of infinities. (We learned countable, uncountable, and other classifications in school - but never how to compute with infinity.)
@cjd Get your kids out of govt school. 9/100 students molested by teachers and staff in 2012 (US nationwide) - and getting worse ever since. They will also learn that men can get pregnant, that boys can become girls, ...
Project for homeschool physics: weigh the sun. The hardest measure is the Cavendish experiment - you can go to a museum, or "cheat" and use precise laser measurements to do it at home (lasers and electronics are "magic" when you are supposed to be observing the foundations yourself).
@karnage @YoungBlood The logic is inescapable. Either the "fed" is unconstitutional (my position), or the President can fire the governors - it's right in the Federal Reserve Act. So which is it?
@cjd This Quantized Inertia is different than Davis mechanics (although they might be connected).
What they have in common is that the parameter(s) change with the setup in a poorly understood way. The Davis formula:
F = ma + Da' describes the devices (which have been built in peoples workshops with e.g. lawnmower engines) - but the "constant" D changes with the situation in unexpected ways.
@PNS God blames the baby daddies.
" And so your daughters turn to prostitution and your daughters-in-law to adultery.
I will not punish your daughters when they prostitute themselves, nor your daughters-in-law when they commit adultery. For the men themselves go off with prostitutes and offer sacrifices with shrine prostitutes. So a people without understanding will come to ruin. " Hosea 4:14
@truthbait Until there is at least token acknowledgement of the Hamas "civilian shield" policy - I just roll my eyes at such "reports".
If the criticism is "knowing Hamas uses civilian shields, Israel shouldn't have gone after that target" - then it's worth a listen. But not going after a Hamas target also has a cost in civilian lives.
@truthbait Isn't this commanded in Torah? "A covenant of salt" Numbers 18:19 and other places. Eze 43:24
@cjd @wolf480pl Have you tried the "Mr. Tompkins" series by George Gamow?
