This is a female cardinal and a black-capped chickadee. Chickadees don't hang around long at the feeder and it was gone a second later. I took this photo from inside my house, it's zoomed in a bit too much.

Gulf of Mexico

Something else I don't miss, making engineering drawings on a drafting board using pencil, a T-square, and triangles. I did these in high school. I used to use a slide rule too. Most of you probably don't even know what those items are. Royal Terns

These terns were all facing out to sea, lined up at Holly Beach, Louisiana, on the Gulf of Mexico.

I took this shot of Hollow Rock on Grand Portage and Lake Superior a decade ago.

Despite this spot being only about 45 minutes of my house, I seldom get there. Every year, I think that I should go photograph it in December when the sun comes through the hole, but then I end up doing other locations for the good sunrises.

The water was low a decade ago! You can't get this close now that water levels are near normal.

Wendelstein 7-X broke yesterday its own record with the 100 s discharge duration and ca. 400 MJ total energy injected into plasma.

This infrared image shows almost no thermal loads to the first wall, i.e. plasma is well insulated from the surroundings, which is essential for a future reactor. We call such state of plasma - detachment. It allows for longer operation of the reactor.

With 100 s plasma duration this is probably a world record for the duration of the detachment. (C) IPP

We plan to reach 200 seconds by the end of this campaign with 1 GJ injected into the plasma.

1000 out of 1200 kids in this school in #Oulu, #Finland, arrive by #bicycle, even in winter. 100-150 walk, rest by ski, kicksleds and car. This day it was -17°C, some days it can be colder than -30°C.

Note that this is only one of the four bicycle parking areas of this school 🤗

Desert Bighorn Sheep. Goler Wash, Death Valley National Park, 2021 I was off roading as it was a Sunday and no planes were flying. I decided to head up the wash to the Barker Ranch (where Manson was caught) and it took about 3 hours to go ten miles.
