Great White Egret
It's easy to see how this bird gets its name. Lurking in the shadows on the bayou, it looks both beautiful and deadly.
'It is often found standing in the water or walking on land looking for food. This species of egret typically feeds by wading through shallow water while stalking its prey, waiting until it comes near the feet before pouncing on them." - learnbirdwatching.com

Peace ✌☮🕊
I'm a child of the 60s we used to flash the two fingered peace sign as greeting among friends. Now it seems corny but then it was cool. We used slang like groovy, bitchen, and to indicate approval. We also said "man" a lot, like "groovy man." It was another time, I sometimes think of it a three lifetimes ago.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this peaceful photo of sea birds at the beach. I clearly focused on the waves not the birds. Cheers.

I'm still trying ...
This pretty Eastern bluebird was on the powerline across the road from my front yard. That is where we usually end our morning walk. I've been trying to lure these birds into my backyard where they might perch in the trees. So far, I haven't seen any there or seen any evidence that they've been there.
"Eastern Bluebirds eat mostly insects, wild fruit and berries. Occasionally, Eastern Bluebirds have also been observed capturing and eating larger prey items such as shrews, salamanders, snakes, lizards and tree frogs." - allaboutbirds.org

That time Stephen Colbert visited #NASA and I (blue shirt) made him do a double take 🤣🤣
He was very kind, introduced himself to us all, and sent us autographed pics!
And when I was working #ISS, I had to train on the C.O.L.B.E.R.T (Combined Operational Load-Bearing External Resistance Treadmill) treadmill!!

The 95% salt concentration increases the density of water and buoyancy, making it so you can't sink.

Went out to photograph buffalo / bison today. Very overcast with light snow. After I had my fill of buffalo, on the way out of the park saw these telephone poles. Took some shots while driving. Should have stopped.
I'll have another serious conversation with myself later about slowing the heck down when I see something interesting and not half assing it.

Northern Cardinal
I took this photo in September 2022. I like the colors of her feathers.

Life goes on at the feeder:
This nice couple dropped by for dinner on 21 December, which is the winter solstice. I would have liked to get closer, but they would have promptly departed had I tried. Be that as it may (I just wanted to use that in a sentence😎), I took this photo from inside my patio through the glass door. The birds look almost like paintings, don't they.

Good morning 🕊🕊🕊

Beach Birds
Here is a sanderling and ruddy turnstone hunting at Holly Beach, Louisiana.
“I caught a glimpse of happiness, and saw it was a bird on a branch, fixing to take wing.” - Richard Peck
Meanwhile, back at the feeder:
This is a female cardinal and a black-capped chickadee. Chickadees don't hang around long at the feeder and it was gone a second later. I took this photo from inside my house, it's zoomed in a bit too much.

Gulf of Mexico
The ocean seems to go on forever until it fades in the distance. There is a lone brown pelican skimming the water far away.
“You will love the ocean. It makes you feel small, but not in a bad way. Small because you realize you’re part of something bigger.” - Lauren Myracle

Something else I don't miss, making engineering drawings on a drafting board using pencil, a T-square, and triangles. I did these in high school. I used to use a slide rule too. Most of you probably don't even know what those items are. CADD is much better, and you don't end up with pencil dust and ink stains all over your clothes. #MastoArt #Art #photography #photo #CADD #drawing #engineering #drafting
Royal Terns
These terns were all facing out to sea, lined up at Holly Beach, Louisiana, on the Gulf of Mexico.
"A sleek seabird of warm saltwater coasts, the Royal Tern lives up to its regal name with a tangerine-colored bill and ragged, ink-black crest against crisp white plumage. They are social birds, gathering between fishing expeditions on undisturbed beaches and nesting in dense, boisterous colonies." - allaboutbirds.com
I took this shot of Hollow Rock on Grand Portage and Lake Superior a decade ago.
Despite this spot being only about 45 minutes of my house, I seldom get there. Every year, I think that I should go photograph it in December when the sun comes through the hole, but then I end up doing other locations for the good sunrises.
The water was low a decade ago! You can't get this close now that water levels are near normal.
