Amidst the wretched news from election day, he's one ray of light
Ballot measures to protect and strengthen the environment won, 5 times out of 6, around the country: https://insideclimatenews.org/news/07112024/state-climate-initiatives-fare-well-across-country/
The imminent demise of climate action at the federal level is gonna be a big, big setback
but the fact that things will still happen at the state and local level is good
#ThrowbackThursday
I found an old film of my solo hike in the Carpathians in 1996. I rescanned it. It was dusty and dirty. But very pleasant memories from those times

Got to do a camping trip up in Minnesota with my boys over the weekend. Partially to get a good view on the Norther Lights. We got some good views with the ol naked eyes early Friday night. It was cold though, and we under-prepared for that, unfortunately, so boys didn't want to get out of their sleeping bags and go do more viewing when it got more active again later in the night.
Today is #ThrowbackThursday & #VolcanoThursday 😻 & I dream of a #hedgewatch with my humans to the #Studlagil #canyon in #Iceland. It was pawsome to see the #rocks with the beautiful #columnarjoints

The stories these rocks could tell... if only they could. For me it's very much like imagining fanciful figures in clouds.

The Old Power Plant near the edge of Niagara Falls in the Autumn. Standing here, this close to the edge of the great Niagara Falls at the point of no return. The depths of which the water falls......it's hard to imagine wanting to go over to see how it would go.....just crazy. The Fall colors on the river's edge were beautiful.

Sleeping birds.
These little sleeping birds are dunlins (Calidris alpina). Notice how all of the birds on the outer fringes on the group have their beak tucked under the wing facing away from center. I read about this behavior with another bird species. It's a defensive measure. Many bird species can keep part of their brain awake and keep on
"Shorebird hybrids are very rare, but careful observation by birders have turned up hybrids between Dunlin and at least two other arctic-nesting species: White-rumped Sandpiper and Purple Sandpiper." - allaboutbirds.org

Good morning. 🍂🌿🍃
1 November 2023
I just said good morning and look, it's almost noon. I haven't been myself for the past week plus. I may have mentioned that I had a cold, well it hasn't completely gone away yet, though it's abated quite a bit. Sometimes, like now, I wonder if the symptoms are more expectation that than real. Sleep is what's need and sleep is what I've been doing. I've missed my early morning sessions in the backyard with my cameras.

Cooper's Hawk
Another photo of a cooper's hawk.
"The oldest recorded Cooper's Hawk was a male and at least 20 years, 4 months old. He was banded in California in 1986, and found in Washington in 2006." - allaboutbirds.org
Good morning. 🍂🍂🍂
25 September 2023
Yesterday the sky was dark, and I was sure it would rain, but other than a few isolated drops, nada. Today, I hope will be different, my lawn could use some rain. I haven't been keeping up with watering this year. Interestingly, in Louisiana, you can find ground water about a foot below the surface.
My personality used to include a taste of OCD. When I say "used to" I mean relatively recent past, not my long-ago younger days. When something needed to get done, I would obsess until it happened. But now-a-days, in retirement, I'm as mellow as a pillow.
It's weird how our personalities change over the years. We're more like machines than we'd like to believe. A slight chemical imbalance changes the ballgame.
