Wow, foot pax Rosslare-Bilbao is €205 one way without any onboard services added. Add cabin (min €199, not slumming an overnight on a recliner seat) & food/drinks.
That idea didn’t last long 🙁

Take a train to Italy & ferry west across Mediterranean to Barcelona.
UK option might be long ferry voyage to Bilbao or Santander then RENFE.
(Somewhat tongue in cheek ideas).

And sorry if I sound like some old fogey, but I don't give a damn about drone taxis

I would simply like it that a family from Hagen who wants to NOT FLY to Tarragona for their summer holiday COULD GET THERE BY TRAIN, easily and for a decent price

But that seems to damned radical and hard for EU policymakers to care about 🤬

Where’s Emon Lusk & his free Starlinkers, eh?

Oh, wait… Not his side, is it?

"Just learned that if you add `cooked.wiki/` to the beginning of *any* recipe URL (before the `https://`), it strips away everything but the recipe & organises the ingredients & method into separate columns."

From BSky, but he's deleted it, so 🤷‍♂️

Yes we succumbed to a technology that consumed ever more energy at a time when we needed to be drastically reducing demand, and which eroded privacy on its way to chaotically destabilising society, but for a beautiful moment in time it got better at creating alt text.

A phrase I heard and loved when I was in a committee room in the UK Parliament this evening, for an Open Source event - “Open Source is the Right to Repair, for software.” 👏🏻 such a perfect way of describing it, I wish I'd been the one to say it!

@Wifiwits Heavy frost driving Ballynahinch to Hillsborough vicinities. Main roads OK.

@ChallengeApathy @libreoffice
Sellers gotta sell, the only reason bloated software that is familiar to most consumers gets installed.

Man, I'm absolutely in love with @libreoffice. Initially, I used OpenOffice because I needed a free alternative to #Microsoft Office but since then, I've become very conscious of my privacy and the myriad benefits of #FOSS.

It wasn't until 2022 that I made the switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice and at this point, I genuinely see ZERO reason to use #Office365. Why on earth would I pay a subscription for proprietary software when I can use an outstanding FOSS office suite that respects my rights and allows me to support them through donations, rather than predatory subscription plans?

It's awesome to me that free/libre open source software is at that point, now, where the alternatives are equal to, if not better than their proprietary competitors. In general, the #libre movement in computing is making for a much more hopeful digital future as big tech and proprietary software developers get worse and worse. Long live free software!

@ChrisMayLA6
I hear from radio news that MPs are soliciting opinion in a committee today. Sounds like a Westminster gogglebox show focussing on ‘Bates vs the Post Office’.

Anyone who thinks the route to a just resolution to the #HorizonIT crisis lies with a massive fine & compensation paid by #Fujitsu is letting the UK's political class & legal system off the hook.

Certainly, making Fujitsu pay is a necessary element to a just resolution but it is hardly sufficient.

The political class' scramble for cover will be masked if we focus primarily on the #software itself.

There were/are plenty of people who need to be held to account & only a minority are IT folk!

Substitute ‘aviation’ for ‘rail’ and one might understand the level of hype for autonomous air vehicles (aka Dan Dare ‘flying cars’) and all sorts of nonsense.

Damn I am tired of rail "journalism"

You job as a journalist writing is NOT to stick what the industry says in press releases in an article

It is to check whether what is said is consistent with what others have said *AND* whether infra, finance and rolling stock would allow something to happen

🆕 blog! “We pay 12p / kWh for electricity - thanks to a smart tariff and battery”

I love my solar panels. But the solar panels don't love the British midwinter. Most of the year, my panels produce more electricity than I can use. But in winter we're lucky if they produce 3kWh per day - and most of the time it is considerab…
