When discussing the #Jan6 Committee, it is highly misleading to say a criminal referral to DOJ from Congress is “no different than a referral from an ordinary citizen.” A referral backed by the amount of investigation and evidence compiled by this Committee is indeed different. That background work doesn’t require DoJ to indict Trump or Eastman but it certainly makes it easier to do.
I’ve lived through two major geopolitical shifts in my lifetime: the end of the Cold War and 9/11. Now we are experiencing another turning point, brought about by the invasion of Ukraine, the rise of China, Iran & N Korea WMD, and decline of globalization. https://wapo.st/3jf3X6l
The only way to deal with a fascist is to drop the assumption of good faith.
You know what they want: to harm vulnerable people, one way or another.
So you don't give an inch.
You call their disingenuous little acts faking civility and reason out for the bullshit they are.

Banning and then quickly unbanning is a method of control without control. The journalists have learned that they must appease Elon or lose the steady drip of content sources they’ve grown dependent on, but weren’t given enough time to develop other sources.
It’s literally a text book manipulation technique.
“Tár is less interested in explaining the relationship between genius and cruelty than in showing how both collaborate with power—as derived from the brands, the institutions, and all their virtuous pretense—to create a shield against accountability.”

Now seems like a pretty good time to re-link my proposal from October that news organizations stand up Mastodon servers.
In the proposal, I explain why a news organization (and other organizations) might want to have their own Mastodon (or other social network service) hosted on their subdomain, e.g. follow.washingtonpost.com.

Coffee drinkers! Listen! Starbucks workers nationwide are starting a 3-day strike today (Friday 12/16) as part of their effort to unionize.
How can you help? Don't cross the picket line. Get your coffee elsewhere. (Preferably at independent coffee shops. Long live small biz).
And spread the word! Make this message viral. Let's hold billionaire corps accountable because worker's rights are human rights. Let's go.
If your city isn’t embracing the PERMANENT post-pandemic transformation of streets as places for outdoor seating & cafes (aka #Streeteries) then your city hasn’t yet learned one of the most important lessons for better streets & cities in recent years. #Montreal is a city that REALLY understands.

Every news outlet should stand up a Mastondon instance for their reporters & staff.
It’ll be great to see GivennameFamilyname@mastodon.famousnewspaper.com or whatever domain they want to use.
Built in verification. Every reporter for the Washington Post on a washpo domain. Every reporter for the New York Times on an NYTimes domain. Etc, etc.
Plus the “local” feed for each instance becomes a feed of all the posts from that institution mixed together — providing extra discovery.
