This made me laugh - Jason Goldman’s take on joinmastodon being banned from Twitter

It was clear from the jump Musk didn’t understand the site he’d bought, but I’m still a bit surprised he doesn’t grasp that journalists are the main reason Twitter was more relevant than any number of other similar platforms. Can easily imagine looking back on this as a tipping point.

FDA looking at the application for Elon to put microchips in people's brains and then at his Twitter account and then back at the application

A thought for the media organizations whose employees are getting intimidated with bans.

You can:
1) Shutdown your official accounts and pin a note why.
2) Ask all of your reporters to do the same and to regularly retweet the official post.
3) Make link sharing harder with a robots.txt entry.

You will have to trade short-term traffic for freedom from a platform that will ban you for negative coverage.

If you're trying to find journalists on Mastodon, I've created a verified database of several hundred here: presscheck.org. Since the backlog has become enormous, the unverified waiting list is now public also: presscheck.org/pending

Dr. Simone Gold, a convicted U.S. Capitol insurrectionist and ringleader of a network of right-wing health-care providers that have made millions selling so-called alternatives to vaccines, has offered to help Elon Musk assemble a team of doctors to fact-check medical information on Twitter.

It's time for the US Federal government to exit Twitter. It cannot publish on a censorship/disinformation channel.

The irony though of building one of the biggest cybersecurity Twitter accounts in history and having my final post blocked and flagged as malicious. 🤷🏻‍♀️🍸💀

Public Service Warning

Mastodon has a very big surge of new users right now. There's no way to tell if it will be sustained, but at this early point it looks similar to Nov 18 when when Musk pulled the employee purge.

It is very challenging for system administration to accommodate so many new users. If your server starts to struggle, it is not broken and will get sorted out.

We're all in this together. It's our social network. Be patient. What we are building is amazing.

having to post links to mastodon on twitter using unicode equivalents. omg, I freely admit to being grumpy at how much of a timesuck gawping at the musk twitter trainwreck has been, but this ... this is amazing.

i'm not even mad

A “legacy bug” has been found on Twitter Spaces so the feature has apparently been deactivated on the platform. Bug was discovered right after about 40,000 people were on a Space, including many who were critical of Musk. Incredibly convenient!

Good blog post in the privacy and national security (that's US national security) concerns of TikTok, by @malwaretech, who decided to have a look whether the app actually asks for location permissions malwaretech.com/opinions/tikto

@alyssam_infosec "This is an un-verified 'verified' account. This person, at one time, had $8".

The sooner that Musk's Twitter goes out of business, the better for freedom of expression, the open web, and most of all democracy. He and his company are a clear and present danger.

Stephen Jay Gould's line is always worth repeating, ringing even more painful now: "I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops."
