One fascinating thing about the House Republican's self-immolation is how it is substanceless.

McCarthy's opponents have no specific complaints about McCarthy.

They just don't like him.

And McCarthy has no specific rationale for being Speaker.

He just wants power.

My take from the floor: we have, for all practical purposes, 3 parties in Congress. Democrats, old-line country club Republicans and the MAGA/wingnut caucus. McCarthy tried to win the wingnuts with rules concessions that didn't win them over, but alienated the rest.

The thing about the Speaker fight is that we're witnessing a fight between a rogue group of #Republicans who don't want to bother with the pretense of governing at all against the GOP majority that wants to maintain that pretense but also has no real interest in governance.
