I'm interviewed by Àlex Gómez-Marin in Pari, Tuscany on consciousness, metaphysics, psychedelic therapy, etc., for the Pari Center.
I'm excited to be at my first conference since I joined @PLOS last year:
The Conceptual Power of Single-Cell Biology
Fun fact: my friend and colleague Quincey Justman and I conceived of this conference when we were both at Cell Press, sometime in 2018.
I'll be tooting as often as I can, at #CSSingleCells23. Hope to attract some others to toot instead of using the MAGA plutocrat's toy.

ARGH!!
Lab's been having a weird problem with western blots. They look like people are touching their blots with dirty hands.
I'm doing a couple of experiments and having the same problem and I *know* I am not touching blots with dirty hands.
Guess what our G*dmned gloves are leaving fluorescence on the blots.
From left to right, rubbed with my washed bare fingers, or two glove brands washed or unwashed with handsoap.

I think this is interesting and welcome, especially on mobile devices. It is not without problems to want to quickly check some fact on your phone, download the PDF, go to landscape mode, find the right location in the paper, zoom in, etc.

I've gone through 3 million manuals in the Internet Archive's collections and produced a "Manuals Showcase", a few dozen manuals that are sure to catch your eye here and there. Readable online, downloadable, and ad-free.
Come join us! Lots of interesting livestock virus sequencing and genomics projects!

Mastodon just keeps getting better! Full text search is here!
Well, almost here...
Mastodon core engineer @renchap has just announced that version 4.2.0 beta3 has just been released and will be rolled out to some instances over the next few days. (https://oisaur.com/@renchap/110946188204729065)
This much requested capability has been in development for a long time and promises to transform Mastodon into a much more capable platform.
Thank you to everyone that has contributed to making search a reality.
How do we balance paying attention to the external world vs our internal thoughts?
The basal forebrain & dorsal attention network dynamically interact with the hippocampus to balance external and internal attention.
Super proud of grad student and first author Craig Poskanzer for his tenacity in leading this project!

Great tribute to Sliman. So very sad. Sliman would have loved being in the NY Times (again).

My dream goal on here is to attract enough #Electrophysiologists so that we can debate things like which drives to use, nichrome or platinum wire, what gold-plating impedance, Vaseline or kwik-sil for surgery, tetrodes in or out of brain, going backwards during screening or not, which is the best recording system, rats vs mice (rats, ofc), etc.
So please tell your #Ephys colleagues to join! (Or they can also join the #NeuroMethods slack but that’s less fun)
