Who is it that is constantly canning worms in the first place and why do they get a free pass for their role in the consequences?

Ever wondered why Microsoft charges money?

It's certainly not for the costs of people developing Windows. You can literally fit a copy of the whole OS on a single DVD!

So, what's the money for? Inquiring minds want to know..

Must suck to realize that there are some forms of epistemic grounding that you and your pals can't simply purchase and torch to the ground.

A common argument I come across when talking about ethics in AI is that it's just a tool, and like any tool it can be used for good or for evil. One familiar declaration is this one: "It's really no different from a hammer". I was compelled to make a poster to address these claims. Steal it, share it, print it and use it where you see fit.

People on Mastodon: I don't get why more people don't join the platform. We are very relatable.

Top post on Mastodon: If you spend 72 hours reprogramming the 1982 Commodore 64 computer using a long-forgotten latin coding language, you can make it display a pop-up window that you would typically only see on the original 1984 Apple Macintosh. Go ahead and try it for yourself.

Maybe you all knew about this, but @davidho has just introduced me to this useful tool for expanding your Mastondon world:

followgraph.vercel.app/#search

It looks at the people you follow and the people they follow and ranks them by the number of follows from your followed. Hopefully you will find some people who were on here all along but who you hadn't found yet - I did.

#OAWeek23 is almost here and we've got SO MUCH great content coming at you next week. Make sure you're following us so you don't miss out on any of the fun! 🥳

💖 🥺 my friend gave me this ya'll.

(Insert philosophical, introspective, emotional rant about how hard I've worked to change myself and it's changed the world around me and the company around me and I'm starting to get to see it)

The winners of this year's "Small World" micro-photo competition are out. I'm especially intrigued by this astonishing shot: a struck match, caught at the exact moment of ignition.
(It ended up in second place, go figure.) #science #photography

Mailchimp (a proprietary mailing list and customer CMS platform) has updated its terms of service.

Mailchimp is planning to feed your email content and customer contacts into its AI models.

Mailchimp's email generating AI might spit out content that infringements on another person's copyright. And the new Mailchimp terms of service say you are legally liable for that copyright infringement, not them.
