I need to be playing Canned Heat - On The Road Again.
Chilling in my hotel room in #Guildford watching the #NFL whilst learning some more about #Mastadon and hacking on my latest project
@vongrippen @shanselman I've been using Tusky (Android) since it was recommended a few days ago. BUT, I just discovered Tooot (android) and it is SMOOTH. Check it out. #Android #mastodon
To all mastodon admins:
Hi! I’m Evan Phoenix, the primary author of puma, the ruby webserver that powers mastodon!
Please reply or DM me if you need tuning help! I’ve got no officiation with the mastodon, just want to see you succeed!
(Quick Tip: set WEB_CONCURRENCY to core count * 1.5 and then tune MAX_THREADS. High thread values will see diminishing returns!)
@kelseyhightower nothing. You can verify yourself against a website though which is the Mastadon equivalent
@Jrz813 apparantly then its Lemmy you're after next ;)
@kelseyhightower https://bitcoinhackers.org/@mastodonusercount/109378378833035843 Friday what crazy, but the signups have continued at the same 3000 per hour rate through the weekend
@holly@mstdn.io the admin basically just let you Toot the length of the database field, so 65535 technically :) Also stuff like Markdown, Latex typesetting and things, bascially each admin can make their own decisions, which adds to the variety :)
You can also do stuff like, change your theme, and stuff in preferences, you'll find it pretty flexible, I believe.
Also with the mobile apps, shop around Android has Tusky which seems to be the best, iOS have a few different versions as well.
@holly@mstdn.io Try not to compare it to twitter and you'll probably find it a better onboarding experience.
I find, generally, the interactions are more and better with far fewer followers, in part due to the lack of quote tweets, and lack of ML based algo to push things down your throat.
Also, bear in mind, every server host is different, in terms of features, customisations and what they offer, so your features may not match my features, but the same goes for me because I can write a 65k character Toot and I bet you can't! ;)
Seeing people with coding ability commenting on features they want in Mastodon, many of them framing their insights as if there is a bug.
Almost all ideas I have seen so far could be implemented in a client or a relay. For ones that can't, there are pull requests. For ones that are declined, downstream forking is feasible.
It's #OpenSource & based on a truly open standard, #ActivityPub. How about we frame ideas positively & look for places to contribute? This is not a walled garden run by VCs.
@juliemc hello Julie stick your details into fedifinder.glitch.me/ and it will do it's best to match your Twitter folk with your Mastodon folk
