Wow! Beautiful. Crescent Earth! Acquisition of signal. The burn has been successfully completed. @NASA_Orion is coming home. "See you later," Moon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppxaKK9papQ #Artemis
#Introduction
Hi! I am a planetary geologist and #science #scicomm #writer, a #maker, and a #mom of two teen daughters. I'm 47. I wrote a book about #NASA Curiosity #Mars #rover and I often write about #space #exploration and #planets for #SkyAndTelescope. I have an #Etsy shop full of #handmade space-themed #jewelry and #sculpture. My first fandom was G1 #Transformers and I'm a lifelong SF/F reader. Current hyperfixation is #GoodOmens. Also, I am a #bharatanatyam #dancer!
@65dBnoise @andrealuck @sharponlooker see if @kevinmgill has any tips with his pipeline stuff
Mindblowing 🤯
#Whisper is an #openSource #speechRecognition model written in #Python by #OpenAI. I’ve just seen it in action. Extract an #mp3 from a video, run it through Whisper, and it turns every spoken word into text. It even does a very decent job in #Danish. Perfect for subtitling #TV and #video. I am very impressed.
@andykirk smokin'
@wythran I've messed around with 8210, but these days I use the Lightphone 2.
I do still have an android phone kicking around for apps line online banking, 2 factor auth stuff etc, but it mostly sits switched off or with a flat battery rather than the old days where I'd literally doom scroll twitter on the laptop then for whatever reason pick up my phone and do the same on there! 😩
@SpectacledLangr Recently migrated to a dumb phone for that exact reason!
@65dBnoise we are also trying to get to a point where we can open up the tooling the science folk use with the mars data to the wider community of interested people. We're not there yet, but its coming at some point so you can login and play around with the same data those papers were written with.
@magicaltrout
It cannot be overstated: you all, and NASA's amazing #opensource / #opendata policies are the ones who created and keep this interest going.
Thank you! 😃
@magicaltrout
Joking, hinting or criticizing is not only welcome but necessary to keep some balance 🙂
Tried to find ways to present PIXL images before, with questionable results (img). PIXL is a unique instrument, though not an easy one to engage with on a frequent basis. But its findings published in papers and presentations are eagerly awaited 🤓
Meanwhile, trying to ground sensation with maps and other technical info may be a middle way to create interest.
@65dBnoise Indeed the papers are arriving with 2 on science.org but the data capture for pixl is sporadic due mostly to its power requirements.
Of course with Pixl the instrument is so close to the surface there's often little context. To help our science team on some captures we blend in the Pixl scan data with Watson images to help with that.
Keep up the great outreach work @65dBnoise !
@65dBnoise I was only joking around, don't worry about it, I know what you mean. 😀
You are entirely correct often its the journey as a whole and not a single event that defines a mission like this one. Driving around drilling random holes for no immediate tangable gain may look reasonably monotonous but to then fly around, collect them and return them to earth will be something special!
