Intro here: work for me is #engineer for #NASA working on returning humans to the #moon with #Artemis. Formerly built #Orion and #ISS. Mom to 2 and wife to 1 😉, #soccer , #DucatiScrambler , #hiking and #outdoorenthusiast . Downtime means #cooking and #videogames . I support students and #womeninengineering and do a lot of #STEM public speaking. As always, #spaceships are the easy part.

🤖 Android + Pixelfed

Our android mobile app beta will be rolling out later this week!

Spread the word 😉 #pixelfed

I’m a reasonable man. Galaxies are nice. I live in one after all 🤷‍♂️

But when they start PHOTOBOMBING MY NEW #JWST IMAGES OF A PROTOSTELLAR JET … 😡🤪

People who think Mastodon is hard haven't tried to just keep a Sentry server running.....

Mastodon – Simplified Federation! a plugin for Firefox

Simplifies following or interacting with other users on remote Mastodon instances in the Fediverse. It skips the “Enter your Mastodon handle” popup and takes you to your own “home” instance, without entering your Mastodon handle on remote instances.

This one is for all the new people on #Mastodon: did you know that the #fediverse has more than just a microblogging replacement? And that they can all interoperate with your Mastodon account?

Check them out!

All right, Mastodonians (this is a thing, isn't it? 😂), time for introduction! I'm a Cloud Architect and DevOps Engineer based in Europe, and I'm interested in a wide range of subjects, including cloud services and solutions, distributed systems and so on. I like board games reading, travelling, and listening to great music in my free time. Let's discuss AWS, cloud, DevOps, sustainability, climate tech, IT, kubernetes, technology, books, book recommendations, and more!

ah, i was wondering if there was an equivalent of the #failwhale i guess so!

It's not easy this stuff.

I’m also going to need everyone here to step up their meme game. That’s how we really win.

Mastodon trolls

Starting to see trolls on here in the last few days. I learned long ago on twitter that you don't engage them in any way. Block them immediately, without a second thought. If they're using racist/sexist/etc language, report them. Oh, and the ability to block an entire server in one click is amazing (last option on the three dots button by the troll's name). I've already blocked one server with an obviously trollish name. (PS my first cw post. Seems like a great feature!)

Politics

We've now reached the point in the country where the BBC News is suggesting £1 meals on its home page 😩

Few things to clarify common #Mastodon misconceptions.
Yes, you can:
- discover & follow accounts across servers
- switch between local or federated news timelines
- easily block users, even de-federate entire server
Try it for yourself, it’s easy, in mobile app or Web UI:

#feditip: add .rss to the end of most pages you see on a Mastodon server to get an RSS feed for your RSS reader.

Level 2: go about your day without internet, then in the evening settle down at your Computer Desk with a nice cup of tea to RSS-digest the day's shitposts.

Level 3: Aggregates your RSS feeds into epub format. Load the output onto your 2000's e-ink e-reader via USB cable. Sit in an overstuffed armchair with a nearby lamp, say aloud "Ah, yes, today's internet" and sip your port.

Hello, world.

I'm dipping my toe into the federated waters, so I might as well do an #introduction.

I'm a data engineer primarily dealing with #Spark in #Scala. When I'm not extolling the virtues of functional programming at work, I'm probably watching birds, playing board games, or scorekeeping at a baseball game.

I'm not much of a poster, but hey, maybe someday I'll start clogging your timeline up with some of my (currently bad) bird photography!

Here is my #introduction

I'm a computer programmer by trade. Sold my first programme in 1982 at age 14 (the text adventure Magic Mirror, miketaylor.org.uk/tech/advent/ ). I work mostly in software for libraries, especially using standards and open APIs.

I'm also a palaeontologist, specialising in the gigantic sauropod dinosaurs. I've named a few dinosaurs including Xenoposeidon. Publications at miketaylor.org.uk/dino/pubs/ — blog at svpow.com

I'm also a musician (folks clubs etc.)

Hi, Jorge here. My #Introduction

I am originally from Spain, but I have been living for nearly 20 years in the #UK, lately in #Sussex.

I work with satellite images, producing geological maps and cross-sections. I work in mineral and oil&gas exploration.

My interests are #cycling, #photography, #synth music/instruments and current affairs.

I write in #English and #Spanish.

📣 For fellow Mastodon rookies - I understand that ‘favouriting’ things doesn’t amplify them to your followers in the way that ‘liking’ would have on Twitter

So if you want to share something, you need to ‘boost’ it

Trying to get my head round a different threshold for sharing things on here!

#TwitterMigration #MastodonRookie

I haven't done an so I guess I should introduce myself.

My name is Tom, I'm a and platform engineer at JPL and I've been slaving away there for the past 6 1/2 years.

I also enjoy educating, open science/data and software in my spare time.

I'm also to add to the entertainment.
