@eloquence Ad space, paid subscription service, monetization for exposure — Cent does this — these are all ways a microblogging site could translate demand into profit opportunity. But none of that is had here.

@eloquence I think it’s worth remarking: The profit motive is capitalism’s way of telling people what to invest resources in. Ideally it reflects or responds people’s demands (in our case for a quality social network) but in order for this to happen demand must be turned into a profit opportunity, and this is not always possible. On a site like twitter, demands for a social network are met with ads. Here there are donations, but they don’t respond to a profit opportunity.

I think it’s worth commenting, the only appeal sites like this one (the Fediverse) and Parler have is towards conservatives banned off twitter and people who see social media censorship as a problem. And unfortunately the average person browsing twitter does NOT think social media censorship is a problem.

rip stefan molyneux twitter. I guess the dude’s worst crime was having the wrong opinion? of all twittersites to migrate to as an alternative he chose Parler tho, which has been even worse with its moderation than Twitter.

@cy without thinking about this too hard, there is a model for prediction in the stock market called "prediction with expert advice" which allows for building a portfolio based on the weighted opinions of others, perhaps you can adapt that model here.

In my first impression of the fediverse it is interesting to visit the exact websites where some accounts are hosted. I am curious, how did you guys join the fediverse? I came across it through Mastodon --- https://joinmastodon.org/ --- and settled on qoto from there
