Loss of epigenetic information as a cause of mammalian aging https://www.cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092-8674(22)01570-7
▶️ Cellular responses to double-stranded DNA breaks erode the epigenetic landscape
▶️ This loss of epigenetic information accelerates the hallmarks of aging
▶️ These changes are reversible by epigenetic reprogramming
▶️ By manipulating the epigenome, aging can be driven forward and backward

What happens when bacterial genomes are put in a eukaryotic context? A lot! Both expected and surprising!
We characterized chromatin assembly, activity, folding and compartmentalization of Mb long bacterial genomes put in a yeast nucleus. A v2! #3Dgenome

1/ Our cafeteria feeds @viennabiocenter scientists all week, including weekends. 3 meals, salad bar, desserts – plenty of choice. Most diners pay little attention to the logo on the ketchup. Fewer still know that the brand’s history is tied to the campus origins. A #history🧵.
Due to internal promotions, we have two fantastic opportunities to join our team here in Cambridge, UK:
- @the_node Community Manager (part of the @Dev_journal team):

What are the functional roles of 3D genome organization? In a new preprint led by @_prashantbhat@twitter.com, we demonstrate a critical role for dynamic 3D organization of genomic DNA around nuclear speckles in controlling the efficiency of mRNA splicing.

We made the first transgenic ants, expressing GCaMP in the antennae (pic), to study how the ant brain encodes social signals. We discovered a core glomerulus in the brain that responds to alarm pheromones.

What regulates alternative splicing? RBP binding to RNA? TF binding to DNA? TF binding to RNA?
Are there systematic studies and sequence-based models of this process?
Any references would be appreciated.

Our latest work on computer simulation of #chromatin appeared in its final form today. Fully extruded loops mediated by #cohesin and #CTCF have increased contact probabilities within loops. Microloops manifest without additional factors. Effects depend on nucleosome positions. It is freely available online until end of the year with https://authors.elsevier.com/a/1g4Hg1SPT0FkK
