@thor It's IMO the best dating app. I honestly expect their business model to be "get acquired by match.com, then get really shitty"
@Alon oh, I think that one is famous. Not sure if it generalizes in any way
@Alon Sure, but joining several lots might be complicated for some reason? You have to find two or more neighbors that are all willing to sell simultaneously, each of which individually seeks to squeeze as much money out of the buyer as possible
@Alon Commieblocks are expensive, especially if you want to build them high, as you sometimes can on Manhattan. Dividing it up into smaller projects might lower the risk a bit in the eyes of financiers.
But to be honest it's probably because the lots were shaped like that by the local government when they were first sold or allocated. Legacy rules the world.
@ThatcherUlrich There are many problems with fission power plants. One of the bigger ones is that they are so big and therefore slow to build that regulations often change during their construction, forcing rework. I don't think the cost of increased quantities of materials etc. would outweigh avoiding that
@Alon I guess it depends on the size and shape of the city blocks
@da_667 I see your "NAS leaks password" bug and raise "OpenStack API responds: this password is incorrect, it doesn't match $real_password" https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/868360
Nuclear submarines are so insanely cool. They have to refuel once every 20-30 years. In between refueling, the core provides power, oxygen, and water for the crew. In fact, nuclear submarines only have to surface every 2-3 months to stock up on food for the crew, at which point any friendly port with a grocery store will do. That’s absolutely bonkers
