Public Enemy released Fear of a Black Planet today (April 10) in 1990. 35 years later, 911 is still a joke and there's still a fuck-ton of power to fight

#NowPlaying: Busta Rhymes – When Disaster Strikes...

Manchester's own Ruthless Rap Assassins. 1990 British Rap, uniquely Northern and still an album I hold close to my heart.
Around this time my passion for Hip Hop was waning. Gone was the D.A.I.S.Y. age, conscious rap was old hat. East Coast Vs West Coast, Gangsta Rap was becoming the only game in town, yet the Manchester Rap scene was probably at it's heights.
Madchester, Rave Culture, Reggae and Brit Funk collided to produce some superb hard edged political music.
1990's Killer album should have been bigger.
A sonic collage similar to the Beastie Boys' Paul Boutique beautifully woven by producer Gregg Wilson. Stark political lyrics exposing the Black British experience in Hulme but with such wonderful deftness of touch and sprinkled with humour so dark it matches the Mancunian weather.
Kermit, soon to become part of Shaun Ryder's Blackgrape project, Dangerous Hinds and Dangerous C were at the heart of the Manchester scene of the 80s rubbing shoulders with a Guy Called Gerald (on writing duties on the track B Line), MC Tunes, MC Buzz B and Kiss AMC.
It's a Killer alright!
There is a great website http://www.rapassassins.f9.co.uk/index.html which keeps The North Hulme Sound's flame alight.
There are downloads off some of Killer, their follow up Th!nk, early demos, Kiss AMC and clips from interviews in 1990.
Well worth checking out.
