made a new release of my JLCPCB Altium libraries.

this new release contains 55451 resistors, 15361 capacitors, 5047 inductors, and a brand new addition: 2384 ferrite beads.

I also fixed an issue where inductors had their category labelled incorrectly and their inductance erroneously listed in the capacitance field.

Dear #Altium,
Octopart has been working seamlessly and reliably for years until you started fucking around with it. Please stop fucking around with it and leave it alone so that the rest of us that actually use it can get on with using it.
Thank you.

#Altium Explorer, the panel in the tool to view projects #A365 Workspace, is down for everyone at my location. I wonder if it's affecting everyone. 😒

I made a script that extracts multilayer board stackups from JLCPCB's API, for every layer count, board thickness, and copper weight option.

it translates the raw API data into a clean normalised JSON format, and also into Altium stackup files. the normalised JSON should be easy to consume if you want to build stackups for other EDA tools.

everything is pretty well documented, so it should be easy to modify and update to your needs.

Nothing draws me in quite like a thermal simulation of a PCB that looks awesome or a photo of an ultra compact #electronics Lukas Henkel excels at showing bot.

He joined me on The Amp Hour this week to talk about OV Tech's #opensourcehardware products like the PiMX8 or their forthcoming SIP with Thintronics. Lots of great tips on how to create high speed designs and compelling visualizations of #hardware.

For the record, Lukas designs almost every #pcb with #altium

#Altium is instituting a $500/user/year fee for Altium 365 Workspaces. My employer can afford it, and the sharing and version control features are nice, but I'm afraid Altium will just keep finding more existing features to charge fees for. I'm wondering it makes sense for a large org to consider #kicad.

@timonsku @macegr I like #Altium, but I generally get the feeling they constantly look for things they can cripple and offer to enable for more money.

I recently got email from an account manager (what us simpletons call a "salesperson") with #Altium , an #ElectronicDesignAutomation ( #EDA ) software company that I bought a rather expensive mid-range product from about 10 years ago.

I've never been able to use #AltiumDesigner without it crashing.

(I believe the root of problem is that the product is built upon the Delphi language and run-time executable, which appears to be an unsupported zombie product of the late compiler maker #Borland .)

The person suggested that I buy a software maintenance subscription (in addition to what I've already spent on a perpetual license) so that I may upgrade to the latest version. Based on my past experience with Altium, I'm not confident that this will fix my problem, or be more productive than literally flushing hundred-dollar bills down the toilet.

Lately I've been warming up to #KiCAD and I expect to make my next #PrintedCircuitBoards with it. It's a pretty intuitive tool (with a few quirks so far, all tolerable).

I think I’ve finally graduated from EasyEDA and considering Altium or KiCAD. The latter is free, runs on MacOS, but the former seems way more advanced and professional. Anyone have any opinions (or tried running Altium on Parallels)?

Dear fellow Electronic humans. Does someone know if there is the possibility to adjust the soldermask opening for this BGA if I do not have access to the library? I adjusted the main rule and all other components have been changed, but there is an overwrite for the BGA. #electronics #altium

I just saw that they're integrating #SiExpert into #Altium. I'm eager to try it.

@GrahamCampbell Hmm. I guess I am used to #Altium where there's definitely a concept of a logical group of boards, which together comprise a project or product or $THING.

I don't love #KiCad's use of the word "project" given the one-board-one-project limitation, though. Why introduce that implied layer of abstraction? Just call them 'boards' and everyone will know what's up. It seems to lead users down a garden path, expecting the app to do something it doesn't.

There is nothing wrong with arcs in #PCB traces, but they look weird to me. I wish I knew how to make #Altium not use them when it shoves and hugs. I want it to stick to 45 degree angles.

Somehow the #Altium site changed into partial-Russian menus. When I refreshed it, it went back to all English.

It's odd that they were only partially in Russian

Fed up of manually creating new parts in an #Altium SchLib for every single new resistor or capacitor you need from JLCPCB's basic parts catalogue?

I've saved you a job. I reverse engineered the SchLib format and auto-generated schematic items for every single 0805, 0603, and 0402 resistor and capacitor in the JLCPCB basic parts catalogue.

The SchLib files have parametric data and reference just six standard footprints, making them super low effort to use.

Enjoy!

Guess I'm going to build my first laptop. A #cluster of 6 #Rasperrypi SSD and some gravy in an old Itronix GoBook.
Why? Because. And for the lulz.
Seriously, I had this old Itronix laptop and always wanted to play with container on a cluster. So it's going to be #clustop.
It's a project in #Altium designer and will be released as OpenSource when ready.
