I didn’t answer about my health manifesting in my writing.

A benefit of a long editing rotation is noticing issues—

Like characters struggling to breathe all the time. I'm missing 33% of my lungs, & even I don’t do that (but I used to, & had an oxygen tank). I edited almost all of that out later. I do, though, know what suffocating is like.

Also, being kind like I am, Riparia has my anxiety & Kasaria has my vertigo.

The last time my health interfered with writing was my last attack of Chronic Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis during NaNoWriMo 2016. I struggled to breathe, my oxygen saturation terrifyingly low.

It was an interesting draft (& the book I just published).

Fortunately, after 7-years of hell, I at last received the treatment needed 6-weeks later.

I also take daily steps to maintain my mental health…all the more important these days.

hyperbolic crochet

I’ve never tried any kind of crochet, or similar handcraft. My talents went in a different direction.

In this particular case, I'm also too hyper for hyperbolic.

phonetic accents

I write otherworld fantasy & don’t write phonetic accents. As a reader, I curse books that use it. It’s exhausting to read. I’d had soman’s hiss “s” sounds with additional letters. Same problem.

I convey someone who speaks differently than my protagonist via word choice & phrasing.

Related to this are diacritics. They’re used in Old Elf, but I only use the language as flavoring, & it’s never critical for understanding.

Writing books takes longer than some people think. The reason your favorite author is talking about a book they're finishing that doesn't come out until next year is that they are going through edits and setting up promotions.
