Just got electricity back after over 4 hours of electricity cuts in south of #France

Even our cell phone and mobile internet were also affected, something I had never experienced before.

Our local bakeries were completely empty and people were panicking at the stores who only accepted cash!

We hear ambulances and police cars with sirens passing since noon.

It was a fire at a transmission station in the VAR region last night and Cannes was without electricty between 2-3AM this morning.

Last day in #Antibes. Time for a small account:
Côte d'Azur is beautiful. I enjoyed diving back into Frenchiness and actually practicing my French against natural speakers and not just my poor kids.

Many things really didn't change much though: traffic is still just a bad and stupidly organised as it used to (with the honourable exception of Grenoble and Paris). Yes, they have nice wide sidewalks in Antibes and an actual pedestrian zone that is effective at keeping cars out. But once you're out there, cars and lorries are everywhere. Pedestrians regularly have to wait for two red lights when crossing a street, even if there's light traffic. Pedestrian crossing are of course parking spots for very busy drivers and constructions workers work around parked cars in construction sites. Antibes Ordnungsamt just like Darmstadt Ordnungsamt.
The contrast between Paris's traffic soundscape and that of Antibes is stunning: Paris limits speed (30) and through traffic, Antibes doesn't (50 even towards central Place Général de Gaulle). You can definitely hear that.
What you can also hear is the ubiquitous disrespect for 'livraison' parking. Resulting in lorries unpacking on the road, blocking busses and setting off a cacophony of honking - because of course traffic jams disappear when honked at angrily.

On the other hand I was pleasantly surprised by the playgrounds: they are all new and really well planned and nicely laid out. And they are heavily used. That's a nice change from our 2020 Arcachon expérience. The one thing I don't understand though: when you remake a playground, why not repair or exchange the doors? And if there's a public toilet just next to it: why not renovate that one too?

Wenn ich noch einmal jemanden über Ticketautomaten oder die Online-Ticketbuchung der #DeutscheBahn jammern höre, raste ich aus.

Gerade in #Antibes 5 Minuten Automatentetris gespielt: der Regioalverkehrsautomat führt Zielbahnhof nicht. Der Automat der SNCF fragt für *jeden* einzelnen Passagier nach einem Online-Account. Man landet für die Wahl der Rückfahrt in einem Bildschirm, in dem vollkommen unklar ist, wie die Buchung weitergeht und der EC-Karten-Leser und der Bildschirm sprechen ultralangsam miteinander.
Raus kommt ein gefühl 4 Meter langes Ticket (so wie früher), auf dem fett steht, dass man es compostieren (also abstempeln) muss - aber kein Stempelautomat weit und breit.

Die Bahnsteige heißen übrigens - sehr intuitiv - 2, A und 1. Und sind in der gleich Type und Farbe ausgeschildert wie die Wegweiser zu den jeweils anderen Bahnsteigen.

Oh, und anscheinend haben wir jetzt komplett ohne Rabatt Zugbindung - in einem fucking Regionalzug.

Leude: Wenn euch die Bahn nervt, fahrt mal Zug woanders™ und erlebt, dass es wesentlich schlimmer geht.

Après la pluie d'hier, la vue d'aujourd'hui est tout simplement magnifique sur les remparts d'Antibes. Vue sur toute la chaîne du Mercantour si vous regardez bien.

C'est un privilège que d'habiter cet endroit :)

I'm a part time worker: all my wednesdays are off.
To be honest, most of my wednesdays are used to handle kid taxi, shopping (food), various house chores but also working at another pace, having time to enjoy my kid and life.

Today, it was a 50km bike trip to Mandelieu La Napoule. Fabulous weather and landscape. A bit hot but ok.

I am privileged to live here, and honestly the best places are not those crowded with tourists - lovely "hidden" places.
