Publishing PerspectivesI wrote a sweet, friendly little children's book months ago, and I like the text a lot. I have been working on the illustrations, but they're the stumbling block. Bluesky Social@bookstodon #writing #authors PSA: #kobo has changed its terms of service, they are now using AI on their Writing Life submissions. They are solemnly pinky swearing it's not for generative AI, but only for things like discovery and accessibility.
For my money, I would have been nominally ok with this if we didn't have ample evidence of AI being let out of its pen, and when the companies are called out on it they shrug and say "well, it's already done and we can't undo it."

We are thinking a lot lately about the role of writing and the purpose or lack thereof of writing assignments in school, in the age of LLMs, in an age of purportedly diminishing reading and writing skills.
Anyway, time to repost this wonderfully provocative and irreverent talk/course on writing effectively which I find very relevant to the discussion, and especially to the question whether some assignments which became pointless in the age of AI maybe weren't all that useful before, either.
