И снова всем привет, не ждали? :) В предыдущих статьях я описал почти всё что можно было описать, но самую важную часть упустил из виду. Мало того - я эту часть упустил в целом, за всё время работы над проектом :( А дело в наглядности. Все желают видеть цифры. Даже не думал делать никаких сравнительных таблиц, но вот сегодня наткнулся на готовую таблицу от автора лучшей программы для 341 под линукс - IMSProg. Изучил таблицу и решил, что и мне таблица для наглядного сравнения параметров всё-таки нужна, и сделал на её основе свой вариант. Огромная благодарность её автору за тесты и готовый материал для сравнения! Часть первая - скорость работы.

I have an old #asus where the #pciex16 obviously died.

Any graphics card I put into the #pciex16 slot makes it crash and prevents it from booting. I also do not get any graphics output at all at boot.

However, I can access the pc #headless via #ssh . It has #ubuntu server installed.

Is there any chance to connect this to any modern monitor having D-SUB, so that I can at least access the #bios or set up something non-headless ?

It has a 350 W power supply, so that is probably not the issue.

old Asus compter with SATA, serial 9 pins male , parallel female, USB ports and audio output connectors

Ok, I spent yesterday afternoon trying to get #RAID configured on my #lenovo #ThinkPad #P70 - to no success.

I found this video youtube.com/watch?v=AyCC1NGe8a of the similar #p50 and configuring #RAID which shows the #BIOS interface but my P70's only show the "non-raid physical discs" I do not have an option for RAID volumes. Note I have upgraded the BIOS to the most recent version on lenovo's web site. Any thoughts?

I have attached 2 #screenshots of what the BIOS displays - I'm trying to configure the RAID on the two 512GB #NVMe sticks.

TL;DR: #GRUB assumes that the file system is valid, and might execute arbitrary code if it isn't.

That is a perfectly valid assumption…or it would be if #Microsoft wasn't still trying to ice-skate uphill by pushing #SecureBoot.

News flash, Microsoft: Secure Boot is only secure if the #BIOS is secure, and I'm sorry to break it to you but that is absolutely hopeless.

#BIOS / #OpenFirmware in the '90s stored settings (boot order, etc) in battery-powered SRAM. If the battery died, all such settings were lost as soon as the computer was powered off.

I wonder if any BIOS developers ever considered storing this information in a partition on the hard drive itself? No worries about the battery then.

Привет, Хабр. На связи Сергей Пушкарёв, я руковожу отделом разработки BIOS в YADRO. Расскажу об устройстве UEFI и его применении в компании. Мы разрабатываем и выпускаем разные аппаратные платформы: серверы, системы хранения данных, клиентское и телеком-оборудование. Один из «кирпичиков», который обеспечивает инициализацию и функционирование оборудования, — это BIOS (но правильнее говорить UEFI 🙂). В статье кратко разберем историю этой системы и ее современную реализацию — UEFI. Также поговорим о подходе к разработке и отладке этого ПО в YADRO.
