This week in #NYC #COVID deaths are down to 17 in 30 days, but #COVID19 cases and hospitalizations HAVE continued to rise. About 253 cases and 15 hospitalizations per month, citywide.

These past few months I've really enjoyed karaoke, traveling, eating indoors, going to seminars, and other activities that can spread airborne infectious diseases. Not happy that I might have to stop those things in order to keep others safe.

@kaffando toot Mar 19, 2023: If we consider even 40% of the world population has had #COVID19 at least once, that is 40% of all people have some level of brain damage. From #brainfog to #dementia. Are we taking this into consideration? They're running government, driving trains & buses, flying planes, performing surgery. I think it's time we start giving serious consideration to the fact that many people we rely on are most likely brain damaged to some degree & possibly shouldn't be in their jobs. #COVIDbrain

Mein Hintergrund ist Softwareentwicklung (C++, Backend, Linux/Unix, Netzwerk/verteilte Systeme/Protokolle/Parser etc.).

Bin etwas chronisch krank, daher ist Vollzeit kein Thema. Aber wenn dennoch etwas "ganz anderes" auch genug Geld einbringt, wäre ich dafür prinzipiell offen.

Ich habe eigentlich auch Gründe noch außer #CovidIsNotOver für full remote (oder zur Not etwas allein draußen), aber 😥

News Release 30-Jul-2025 Clinical trial finds safe, effective treatment for children with severe post-Covid syndrome Peer-Reviewed Publication Mass General Brigham In a small trial, Mass General Brigham researchers found a drug designed to treat Celiac disease supported a more rapid return to normal activities for patients following COVID. Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a rare but serious condition that can occur after a COVID-19 infection, presenting as high fevers, gastrointestinal symptoms, and life-threatening cardiac injury. A small, randomized clinical trial led by Mass General Brigham investigators found the oral drug larazotide—an experimental drug originally designed to treat Celiac disease—was both safe and effective in treating children with MIS-C. Their results are published in Science Translational Medicine. “While our study is small, its results are powerful and have implications not only for MIS-C, but potentially for long COVID,” said lead author Lael Yonker, MD, co-director of the Cystic Fibrosis Center, Cystic Fibrosis Therapeutic Development Center, and Pulmonary Genetics Clinic at Mass General Brigham for Children. “Our findings suggest that larazotide is safe and quickly resolves symptoms in children with MIS-C. We are now running a clinical trial to test whether larazotide may also be a useful therapy to treat patients with long COVID.”

…the state is now ending its requirement for employers to provide paid sick leave for the infection.

COVID-19 quarantine leave will end on July 31, according to the state’s website. The legislation, originally passed in March 2020, made it so that employees could get five to 14 days of job-protected paid leave to isolate due to the illness.

Overall disorders of gut-brain interaction rose from 38.3% to 42.6%.

IBS jumped 28%, from 4.7% to 6%.

Note that Readercon has maintained its tradition of requiring respiratory masks for most events and spaces — a rarity now among conventions. Great to see a con that, unlike most of this fallen fingers-in-ears-la-la-la-can't-hear-you world, is not telling aged, immune-compromised, and other COVID-conscious people to go fuck ourselves.

Swedish people reply “what’s Covid?”, “what would you need a test for?” (while that person explained why in their post) and more such crap.
