It's been a long time since I played Catan and I’ve never owned a copy but after listening to the Cult Of The Old podcast episode about it, and with the release of the sixth edition, I decided to buy it. The podcast has convinced me that it's worth playing again and it could be pretty good with the right group.

www1.wdr.deZwischen den Tagen wurden hier wieder fleißigst #Brettspiele gespielt. Dem Sechsjährigen und mir haben es hierbei insbesondere die Titel #Andor Junior, #Carcassonne, #Wizard (Junior), #Everdell Junior, #Catan Junior + das entsprechende Würfelspiel, #Dorfromantik und #ZugUmZug Junior angetan. #Spinderella war für Junior der Hit, aber leider weniger für den Senior. #Rummikub und #Risiko wurden zwar gespielt, aber von Junior eher weniger heiß geliebt. Was sind eure Lieblingsbrettspiele für Kinder?
Erste #Brettspielliebe: vermutlich #ScotlandYard. Eine Klassenkameraden hatte das. Damals, in den 80ern hinterm Eisernen Vorhang war das für mich etwas wie aus einer anderen Welt. Farben, Materialien, die Spielidee - in jeder Beziehung faszinierend anders und besser als alle #Brettspiele die bis dahin kannte.
Heißeste: War vor 30 Jahren mal Die Siedler von #Catan - hielt sehr lange an, war DAS Familienspiel zu allen Feiertagen. Heute ertrage ich es nicht mehr. Aktuell: #ArcheNova. Ich muss immer einen guten Moment anpassen wenn ich meinem Mann neue Spiele beibringen will. Bei AN hat er während der Regelerklärung nur mit den Augen gerollt. Ich wusste aber dass das Thema ankommen wird (wir haben quasi ein Dauerabo für die Wilhelma). Es hat dann schnell klick gebracht und er gewinnt fast immer. Mit AN verbringen wir die meiste Zeit. #Wasserwelten und die vielen neuen Maps gaben nochmal einen extra Boost.
Neueste: #Revive. Hab über ein Jahr gebraucht um mit einem Freund die 5 Partien der Tutorialkampagne zu spielen (rückblickend: überflüssig). Danach erst ist so richtig Begeisterung aufgekommen. Finde ich aber zu zweit nicht so wahnsinnig attraktiv. Empfehle 3 oder 4 Spieler. Erstes Spiel übrigens bei dem ich Geld für ein #Insert ausgegeben habe.
And sometimes you spend 15 minutes discussing what to play only to end up with a beloved classic (which has all the reasons to be very beloved).
Interesting to hear this. I have heard mixed things about the game. I feel like they need to use cost as an easy handicap but the problem with the adoption of green tech is not cost but perception and culture. I wonder how you could mimic this mentality in Catan? Maybe you need to take double turns to make Green energy choices that only need one turn otherwise?

Satirical #Boardgames are a fairly small niche but I usually enjoy them, even if replayability is relatively low.
This one is respectfully ribbing #Catan (mostly) and I just know I'm gonna enjoy it.
Just played the most cursed game of Catan. I built a total of 2 roads and 1 settlement. In a fit of pique I bought a development card: a knight, of course. I rolled plenty of 7s and lots of resources for everyone else. It be like that sometimes: an evening of drinking with friends ruined by excessive gaming.

Just finished playing one of the most brutal games of Catan I've ever played.
I was given permission to randomise everything on set up, bar player colours.
And this was with permission from people who had not played in a while.
We had a stealth win on the left. I knew what my friend was doing but I couldn't do anything about it while they discretely collected victory point cards.
What if Catan, but CAT-tan or KIT-tan?
Rather than settlements, cities,, and roads, instead build litter trays and cat trees, connected by string (yarn).
The robber is replaced by a laser pointer, which can be used to distract a player.
Resources become sisal, biscuits, cardboard, posts, and toys.

Game 2 in the #BGG Hot Games Room: Catan: New Energies. Catan with a twist to add in a green energy, global warming theme. Solid job of conveying the theme. A little complicated for the payoff though. For a more complex Catan, I honestly prefer Dawn of Humankind. #BoardGames #GenCon #Catan

www.catan.comIf you're going to take on the topic, why tiptoe around it? If you're not willing to be accurate/real about what needs to be done because it will probably discourage people and make them not like your product, maybe just take the time/energy/money making that product, and donate it to green energy causes.
It sounds like a fun-enough take on #Catan but with the message stripped out, what's the point?
